COURTNEE. Like a lot of women Courtnee doesn’t like asking for help so it was her 86 year old grandmother Pat who rang us when Courtnee was diagnosed with breast cancer. Caring for 6 year old Cassidee and Sebastian 18 who is disabled with cerebral palsy, Courtnee was already struggling financially. She had to give up work while she had treatment with chemotherapy which left her very tired and exhausted. During that time we helped by providing funds for respite care for Sebastian, paying utility bills and for someone to clean her home.We also provided counselling which helped her feel less guilty about having someone else provide the special care that she had always given Sebastian. No one deserves a pamper day more than someone like Courtnee.Courtnee’s pamper day was provided thanks to our generous supporters and sponsors.Girls like Courtnee do it really tough. What about giving someone like her the chance to go out to dinner or a show? What a lovely surprise that would be.

MONICA remembers the shock and terrible feeling of being told she had breast cancer and that she would have to have a mastectomy.“I found it difficult at times but I have had so much help, support and compassion and hope from the staff at Breast Cancer Care WA.“I have found going to Breast Cancer Care’s Counselling groups such a help and comfort and especially meeting some of the lovely ladies who have shown so much courage and give you hope and strength and you never have to feel alone again. There is always someone only too happy to help and they get the bit about how you are feeling. They have walked the walk to talk the talk.“I give thanks every day for my life and another chance to live it.”

Surprise!Monica loved being pampered recently with beauty treatments, make-up artistry, a professional portrait photo and delicious food and bubbles, thanks to our pamper day sponsors.

MELINDA, a teacher and single mum of three grown up boys and who also cares for her 91 year old dad, has been through a very tough time. She was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 2008 and had one breast removed. In 2011 she was diagnosed with liver cancer and became very sick with an infection. In 2013 doctors discovered she had three brain tumours. They were able to remove one but two were considered inoperable. These are now believed to have grown back and doctors are now reconsidering surgery. It’s a very scarey time for Melinda there’s no knowing what the future will hold so she’s living each day to the fullest.Melinda was one of our guests at our last pamper day and wore the new ensemble she received to her niece’s wedding recently.

What would you give to surprise someone like Melinda?
