PTA and School Leaders, Our Founders’ Day luncheon was a great success! Thank you to Debbie Bass, Founders’ Day chair, and Mary Thompson, who organized Central High School’s sponsorship of the event, and to Sage Arnold and her team at Second Presbyterian Church, who prepared our wonderful lunch! A special thanks also goes to Central High’s Mr. Samuel Meredith and “The Magnificent Seven” jazz combo, who provided our terrific musical entertainment, as well as Chief Fields and the Central ROTC Color Guard, who presented the colors. Another highlight of the day was Forest Park 4th grader Jack Nolan reading his first-place essay for the American Education Week contest – way to go, Jack! We were honored to have Betsy Landers, National PTA Secretary-Treasurer in attendance, who was in Little Rock to give Gibbs Magnet Elementary a NPTA award for their participation in “Take Your Family to School Week.” We were also pleased to have in attendance: AR PTA president Ginny Kurrus, LR CTA president Cathy Koehler, LRSD Superintendent Linda Watson, several LRSD board members, ten of our former Council presidents, and nearly 300 students, parents, teachers and administrators from across the district. What a wonderful show of PTA support! Congratulations to the Council’s Administrator of the Year, Dr. Suzanne Ross of Central High, and the Teacher of the Year, Charlotte Cook of Carver Elementary, and all of the nominees for those awards! A complete listing of all Council unit awards, plus American Education Week and Reflections winners, can be found in this newsletter. Thanks to Tami Duke, Council Reflections char, and Jeff Carr, our 3d VP and American Education Week chair, for their efforts. We are also pleased to announce that ALL of our PTA units in the Little Rock School district have paid their dues to the PTA Council AND have remitted membership dues to the AR PTA following their membership drives. WAY TO GO!! We look forward to seeing you at our next meeting, Tuesday, March 10, 11:30-12:30, at Felder Academy, 6900 Pecan Ave., when our focus will be on alcohol and drug abuse prevention. Patty Barker President, LR PTA Council 7215 Kingwood, LR 72207, 666-4011, pbarker7215@yahoo.
