MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Dear Parents, Caregivers, Students and Staff,
Congratulations and thankyou to everyone for a
highly successful Term 1. There have been a
number of new initiatives and programs that
the school has initiated this year and
indicators are that the student learning
programs will be enhanced as a result.
As I indicated to you last year the school has
received an additional $680,000.00 through
the Federal Government’s National Partnership
(NP). This significant amount of money is to be
used to develop programs that will improve
student learning outcomes. After a very
rigorous evaluation of school based data two of
the areas that were most in need are literacy
and community engagement.
This term we have implemented a very detailed
and intensive three year professional learning
program to improve student literacy skills. All
students from Year 1 – 6 have had their
reading fluency and comprehension assessed
individually using a standard process and we
look forward to reporting their progress over
the year.
The school has also tried to engage more
effectively with parents and caregivers. The
NP funding has allowed us to employ a
Community Liaison Officer (CLO), two days per
week. Mrs Naffa (Maysoun) is at school
Monday and Friday and works with ALL
parents. She has organised parent programs
that run almost every Monday with sessions
being held in English and Arabic.
Last week we held our first parent teacher
conferences for 2012 and it was great to see
so many of you throughout the year. The
teachers have said that they really enjoyed
meeting with parents/caregivers and that
spreading the conferences over the week
meant more time could be spent with you.
Please let us know if you found this more
valuable. Thank you for taking the time to work
with us in educating your children.

Students return for Term 2
MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Dear Parents, Carers, Staff and Students,
It has been great to see so many parents and carers attending our Parent and
Teacher Learning Conferences this week. By working together, we can make sure
that our students are well supported in order to succeed at school. I also hope
that our families found the new online booking system easy to use and more
efficient than the paper system we previously used.
On Friday we are holding our ANZAC Ceremony. Parents and Carers are invited to
join us as we commemorate this important date. Our service begins at 11:30am
and should conclude by 12pm. We will be selling sprigs of rosemary for a gold
coin donation with all money raised being donated to Legacy.
This term, we have begun the process of reviewing our school’s discipline policy.
As part of our review, we will be conducting a number of forums for parents and
carers to contribute. Our review of the anti-bullying plan is continuing and I
thank those parents and carers who contributed to our survey earlier this year.
More details on both the discipline policy and anti-bullying plan will be sent
home next term.
Congratulations to all the students who were successful in gaining a position in
our PSSA teams for Winter 2017. We are now participating in three sports:
soccer, netball, and touch football. I look forward to hearing great things about
our sporting teams!
During last week’s assembly, I spoke to students about our school motto: Honour
and Pride. I asked them to think about what it means to have pride in our school.
We have a wonderful school community and I have challenged students to show
that pride by taking care of their appearance, in particular, school hats. Please
speak with your child about keeping their school hat clean and free from any
writing. Names should be written inside the hat, not all over the bill (front of the
hat).
Finally, take time to enjoy the upcoming school holidays! Enjoy all those Easter
Eggs and remember to eat in moderation!
Yours sincerely,
Mr Ian Tapuska Principal

SCHOOL ZONE CROSSING UPGRADE
The NSW Government is funding an upgrade to school zone signs at Liverpool Public School as part of the NSW School Zone Flashing Lights program to improve the safety for students in the area. Roads and Maritime Services is upgrading the school zone signs on Railway Street, between George Street
and Bigge Street which includes removing and replacing the existing static signs with flashing lights signs.
The new flashing lights signs are additional to existing flashing lights signs around the school.
The work will be carried out so that it does not impact the operations of existing school zone flashing signs around affected schools. There will be some footpath and lane closures while work is carried out, and we will have signposting and detours in place when required. Some parking spaces will also be unavailable while work is completed. There will be minimal noise associated with this work.
The sign will be installed between Thursday 27 April and Thursday 18 May, weather permitting.
As we do not know the exact date, we will keep families informed via Skoolbag.

STUDENT REPRESENTATIVE COUNCIL (SRC)
SRC Grip Conference
On Wednesday the 8th of March the SRC and School Leaders participated in the GRIP
Student Leadership Conference.
We went to Sydney Olympic Park and were greeted with over 1500 smiling
representatives from 100 different schools in different school uniforms. The hosts
were very welcoming, and made sure we all had a blast. They started by giving us a
GRIP leadership booklet with many educational, beneficial and fun activities that
targeted leadership qualities; in which would help us improve our school. Throughout
the conference, we met with other students from different schools and discussed
many issues in schools and thought of how we can resolve them. Some issues that
were discussed were:
people not having friends
boring playgrounds
bullying
community activities
Throughout the conference they ensured we had resources to support our learning.
They had special moments throughout the conference such as asking one person from
each school to come on stage. We played a variety of games that showed us leadership
qualities, what to do in certain circumstances and how to communicate with our peers.
We were also educated on how to project ideas and learnt why most ideas go
unnoticed. The hosts were full of jokes and laughter which brought a smile to all our
faces, it was definitely a positive learning experience to remember.

Harmony Day 2017 The Liverpool Public School community united in a celebration of Australia’s many different traditions and cultures as part of Harmony Day on Tuesday 21st March 2017.
Students donated a $2.00 coin to raise money for Camp Quality. Camp Quality’s purpose is to create a better life for every child living with cancer in Australia. They are committed to delivering national programs that build resilience and optimistic behaviours for all children (0-13 years) living with cancer in Australia. The total raised and donated was $962.25. Thank you for all those who donated to this important cause.

THE LEADER IN ME This week at Liverpool Public School, students have been working on Habit 5 - Seek first to understand and then be understood. This mean we listen to other people/s ideas and feelings. We try to see things from their view points. We listen to others without interrupting. We are confident in voicing our ideas. We look people in the eye when talking. There are strategies that you can use towards your children. For example: Hints for home So I understand what you are saying. Help me to understand your point of view.
It seems like there is something bothering you?
Last week you _______ without even being asked.
Using this type of language when your child is upset or having a bad can be beneficial and make them feel as though they are being heard. Happy Easter and have a great school holidays.
