Objectives

Identify trials and experiments to provide feedback on the functionality and performance of the network.

Perform trials and experiments, performing measurements and collecting data during each experiment.

Provide guidelines on network configuration and design, based on the analysis of the processed data.

Experiments: Performance Measurement Methodology

Developed a methodology for performance measurement Main results: throughput, delay, jitter. Tools: MGEN6 (UDP), Netperf (TCP). Parameters to vary for each test.

Sending rate. Packet size.

The methodology can be found in D4.1

LONG: Laboratories Over Next Generation Networks.

Results from First Phase Trials

Performance evaluation trials on Transition mechanism implementations. Access and transport technology equipment.

Performed locally by each partner. Based on available equipment (Cisco, FreeBSD, Linux,

Windows). Large set of tests:

Roughly, about 45 different configurations. On each one,

20 MGEN tests with different sending speeds, 6 different packet sizes.

Netperf testing.

¡More than 5000 individual tests!Test specifications can be found in D4.1

Test results can be found in D4.2

Results from First Phase Trials

Transition mechanisms can be deployed in a network without high performance lost.

The most relevant parameter is packet size. The use of transition mechanisms is only relevant for small packet sizes.

Second Phase Trials

Testing: Advanced network services. Advanced application services.

Functional and performance tests. Transition mechanisms considered.

Aim: develop the most appropriate architecture for the deployment of each service.

Distributed experiences using the LONG network. Also local experiences for more exhaustive tests.

Current status: Tests were proposed on D4.3. Executing tests.

The proposal for the Second Phase Trials can be found in D4.3
