Inpharma 1657 - 27 Sep 2008 Long-term betacarotene improves memory Consuming betacarotene over a long period of time may preserve mental fitness by improving how the brain, especially the memory, works according to a new study. Betacarotene, present in carrots, tomatoes, many leafy green vegetables, and fruits, can also be commercially produced is found in many fortified foods and beverages as well as dietary supplements. Two sets of experiments in combination - The Physicians Health Study I and II - demonstrated that betacarotene had a significant influence over a range of cognitive performance tests. Volunteers who participated in both studies over many years performed much better in the tests than those who received betacarotene for the second study only or who received a placebo.
