Long-term betacarotene improvesmemory
Consuming betacarotene over a long period of timemay preserve mental fitness by improving how thebrain, especially the memory, works according to a newstudy.
Betacarotene, present in carrots, tomatoes, manyleafy green vegetables, and fruits, can also becommercially produced is found in many fortified foodsand beverages as well as dietary supplements. Two setsof experiments in combination - The Physicians HealthStudy I and II - demonstrated that betacarotene had asignificant influence over a range of cognitiveperformance tests. Volunteers who participated in bothstudies over many years performed much better in thetests than those who received betacarotene for thesecond study only or who received a placebo.
