Note for the end of 2014

• LHC will restart with beam in autumn 2014

• It is not planned to have a stop of LHC beam operation at Christmas 2014– 1 week of standby for LHC & Injectors– Consequences for maintenance activities???– FT programs will have a normal stop from

December 2014 to April 2015.

What will run in 2013?

EN/MEF Coordination teams

Page 10: LS1 Day: The Injectors

LS1 Day: The Injectors 10

What will run in 2013?• Main constraint is CV maintenance

– PS Complex water off in May, June & July• LINAC3

– Test with new ions for NA61 2014 operation– Mid-January for 13 weeks (Argon)– Early August for 13 weeks (Xenon)

• CTF3– March to November– Stop 3 months in summer

• ISOLDE – REX-IBIS

• 3MeV test stand– February to April – August to December with a new source

LS1 Day: The Injectors 11

Reminder: What will not be done…

Page 12: LS1 Day: The Injectors

LS1 Day: The Injectors 12

Reminder: What will not be done…

• SPS Cable clean up around BA5• Replacement of irradiated cables BA1• Replacement of all irradiated cables TCC2 & TDC2

– Look at replacing a limited number of cables to avoid duplication of work and reduce overall dose?

• All preparations for the connection of Linac4 to the PSB before LS2

• PSB cable clean-up (requested but never formally agreed)– Some preparatory work to at least identify cables?

• EAST Area cabling• NA62 ventilation in NORTH Area

– Must be done in the 2014/15 NORTH Area stop

Page 13: LS1 Day: The Injectors

LS1 Day: The Injectors 13

What will be done• Consolidation and maintenance work

– all groups• Replacement of PS Complex access system

– 28 access points, 100 doors– Both systems to run in parallel during 2014…– The time critical activity

• New PSB Interlock system• Replacement of the PS tunnel ventilation system

– Requires sealing of PS tunnel & TT2 (not a trivial exercise!)• New PS beam imminent warning system (BIW)• Addition of shielding over the Route Goward at the PS

– Major Civil engineering project which will complicated access to the PS area.• Removal of 4 PS main magnets• TT2 magnet renovation

Page 14: LS1 Day: The Injectors

LS1 Day: The Injectors 14

• Vertical re-alignment of SPS between 5 & 6 – Needs displacement of the support jacks

• Full re-alignment of all machines• Replacement of the SPS main power supply transformers• Replacement of approximately 15 SPS main magnets• Change of 12 additional SPS main magnets for e-cloud vacuum chamber coating

What will be done

Page 15: LS1 Day: The Injectors

LS1 Day: The Injectors 15

How are we organised

• Now we have the list of things to do– Aim to produce a first resource loaded realistic schedules for

Injectors– Planning and Coordination meetings – Detailed discussions with Groups (dedicated contact people)

• Machine Coordinators = the Usual suspects– AD & PSB: Nicolas Gilbert – (PSB: D Hay handover date to be defined)– PS: Ray Brown– SPS: David McFarlane– Other problems concerns: Vinod Chohan or Simon Baird

Page 16: LS1 Day: The Injectors

LS1 Day: The Injectors 16

How are we organised?

• We will start from the information already collected and all the approved activities entered into the PLAN database

• Please inform us about new activities• Major new activities must also be entered in PLAN

– Management approval• IMPACT tool will be used as part of the planning once we

have the baseline schedule– Access Control– Activity completion– Documentation control ECR’s etc

Page 17: LS1 Day: The Injectors

LS1 Day: The Injectors 17

How are we organised?

A situation to avoid….

Page 18: LS1 Day: The Injectors

LS1 Day: The Injectors 18

A few outstanding questions to be addressed

• No cable clean-up in BA5 – Is there an issue for cabling for new installations around BA5 (SPS)– BI requests….

• No cable clean-up in PSB – Again is there an issue for cabling for new installations– BI equipment– EPC new power converters– Interlock systems– New ABT equipment…

• Renovation of TT2 magnets– Can we really remove renovate and re-install up to 39 magnets??– Can we do this work in situ?

Page 19: LS1 Day: The Injectors

LS1 Day: The Injectors 19

AD (on top of “standard” activities)

• RF and Stochastic cooling consolidation• Removal of a main dipole– Preparation of a magnet consolidation program for AD

• Removal of unused transfer lines (7000, 8000, ATP) and general clean up to prepare for ELENA

• A delay of AD shutdown 2014/15 is under discussion to allow for a delay of…– Additional works for ELENA & Gbar installation– New building (kickers storage etc…)

Page 20: LS1 Day: The Injectors

LS1 Day: The Injectors 20

NORTH Area

• NA62 ventilation separation is delayed until 2014/15 North area shutdown– 2014 run for NA62 will need RP mitigation measures – Reduced beam intensity – Long flushing periods before access to experimental cavern

• GIF++ installation in H4• NORTH Area long-term consolidation– Prioritized plan starts in 2013 and continues …– In 2013 TCC2 & TDC2 works (with a limited replacement of

irradiated cables t.b.c…)

Page 21: LS1 Day: The Injectors

LS1 Day: The Injectors 21

EAST Area

• DIRAC will be removed to make way for a new irradiation facility

• This is the first step in the EAST Area renovation as presented at the EAST Area Day

Page 22: LS1 Day: The Injectors

LS1 Day: The Injectors 22

Conclusions

• Now we can get started – Business as usual = Coordination meetings…– PS Complex access system is the time critical item– SPS: Two major activities have been removed– Please inform us of changes to your needs (MEF Coordinators and

PLAN)• Some questions

– BA5 and PSB: Will we install equipment without new cables?– TDC2/TCC2 Can we make a limited cable replacement campaign?– TT2 magnet renovation?– Is non-stop operation from early 2014 to the end of 2015 a

concern?– …..
