Their results have arrived and have been sent home today along with a flyer for parents about the tests. The overall school results were very pleasing. An important whole school report we consider is the School Comparison Report which compares the results and growth of our students who sat NAPLAN in 2015 and then again in 2017. Our school results were above the state mean for Reading and Grammar and Punctuation, at the state mean for Numeracy and marginally below the state mean for Spelling and Writing. We expect the current professional learning we are doing around Writing will improve the school s results in this curriculum area. Another pleasing aspect of our schools results were the Relative Growth Reports that measure the growth of students (as opposed to their actual achievement). For Reading, Numeracy, Spelling, and Grammar and Punctuation the medium growth for each area was 58%, 72%,41% and 36 % respectively and high growth for each area was 25%, 16%, 33% and 45% respectively. The Relative Growth Report identifies Writing as being an area for additional work. If parents would like to discuss their childs report with their childs teacher, please call the school to arrange an appointment. We enjoyed a great day out in Melbourne with our visit to the Melbourne Museum and the IMAX Theatre. Students were really engaged at both venues and the learning they took away will support them well in their studies around our Science themes this term. Thanks to the parents who accompanied us and supported us with supervision and thanks to Mrs Seff for coordinating the day. This week has been ES Week that aims to acknowledge the work of our Education Support Staff who work in our school. Thank you Sylvia, Lisa, Sarah and Wendy for the work you do in classrooms supporting students and their learning. Thank you to Fiona for managing the finances and administration of our school. The work of our ES staff is high valued and appreciated and we have acknowledged their work with a special morning tea today. With kind regards, Andy Backwell ~ Principal. REMINDER FOR PARENTS WHO RECEIVED AN EMAIL TO PARTICIPATE IN THE PARENT OPINION SURVEY 2017

The Parent Opinion Survey is an annual survey offered by the Department of Education and Training that is conducted amongst a sample of randomly selected parents at each school. It is designed to assist our school in gaining an understanding of parents’ perception of school climate, student engagement and relationships with our parent community. Our school will use the survey results to help inform and direct future school planning and improvement strategies. The survey will be conducted online by ORIMA Research Pty Ltd and only takes 15 minutes to complete. The survey can be accessed via desktop computer, laptop, tablet or mobile at any convenient time. Please complete the survey by Sunday 27th August. Approximately 70 per cent of families have been invited to participate in this year’s survey. All responses to the survey are anonymous. The online survey is available in English, Arabic, Vietnamese, Mandarin, Chin (Hakha) and Hindi. The survey results will be reported back to our school at the end of September. For further information, please speak to you child’s teacher or visit: http://www.education.vic.gov.au/school/teachers/management/improvement/Pages/performsurveyparent.aspx
