ARIELLA ADA– UK’s

under 21 one to watch!

Article By Lucy Scott

Ariella Ada or ‘Az’ as she’s known professionally, sits opposite me at an inti-

mate table in the Rosetta Hotel in Bristol. Her pistachio-shaped green-blue eyes

seem to smile as she openly tells me of her Hebrew heritage, and her secret ob-

session with Scrabble…this not technically part of the interview, but wonderful

to learn anyway. She’s animated as she reminisces the first video she uploaded

to YouTube, and how a year later she never expected to be signed to a mass rec-

ord label, be voted ‘The UK’s under 21 one to watch’ or to have 2012’s fastest

growing single with ‘Stepping stones and a yellow rose’. When I begin to ask her

questions, she sits forward and gives me her complete attention, a stern expres-

sion of concentration that says she’s giving me nothing short of the real Ariella .

So, Ariella. You’re nineteen! How does it feel to be an upcoming solo

artists signed to a mega record label while most of your friends are just

finishing up their A–Levels?

It’s pretty crazy, a year ago I was sat in our sixth form common room eating

instant noodles, now I’m sat in Bristol's finest hotel being interviewed about

my success! I’m still reeling in disbelief at how much my life has changed. I

feel incredibly humbled, and incredibly blessed to be where I am now.

Who are you main inspirations?

I think musically it would have to be Ellie Goulding,

she’s so incredibly original, and down to earth, her

music is so different, and yet I think every teenager

in the world can relate to her. As well as musical in-

spirations from Indie bands such as The Smiths, and

Mumford and Sons, my friends and family play a big

part in where I am, they’re encouragement and loy-

alty overwhelms me sometimes.

Where do you see yourself in

another year?

Professionally, I hope to make

an impact in Ireland, and maybe

even The States. I’d love my mu-

sic to be able to branch out of

the UK. Non-professionally

speaking though, I’d love to be

sat under a tree with all of my

friends and my guitar, I’m easily

pleased!

“I feel incredibly

humbled,

and incredibly

blessed..”
