In early 2007 magpul announced the pmag 30-round 5.56

nato polymer magazIne for ar15/m16 platform weapons.less than three years after Its release, wIth mIllIonsfIelded to mIlItary, law enforcement, and commercIalusers, the pmag have become the de facto standard formagazIne relIabIlIty and durabIlIty. magpul contInuesto utIlIze user feedback to Improve exIstIng productsand expand the pmag lIne to Include new calIbers andweapon systems.

In 2004, the demand or standard issue USGI aluminummagazines to support eorts in Iraq and Aghanistanwas so high rumor was the U.S. Army was backorderedover one million magazines. In response, the Armybegan development o an easily manuactured polymermagazine to enable increased production and avoiduture supply problems.

In 2006 Magpul Industries initiated PMAG developmentwith similar objectives, but independent o governmentunding or support. Utilizing new polymer compositesand manuacturing techniques, Magpul incorporated anumber o unique and patent-pending design eatures.A low-riction anti-tilt ollower, MagLevel round

indicator system, snap-on dust & impact cover and easy tool-r ee disassembly. These eatures, in combinationwith new polymer and molding technologies,produced an end result that exceeded the perormanceexpectations o the Magpul design team.

The MagLevel round indicator system allows or visual identication o themagazines loaded round count via bright orange indicator coil. By incorporatinga window on both sides o the magazine, it is easily used by both right and let-handed shooters.

pmag In combatWhile others were lost in the governmentprocurement process, Magpul privatelydeveloped and elded the PMAG, whichbecame the most widely used polymer M4magazine in overseas combat operations.

new weapon systems, calibers, and capacities tomeet the demands o military, law enorcement,and civilian end users.

challengesBecause the M16 was designed with a long, narrow magazine well and was originallyintended or use with straight 20-round aluminum magazines, it is dicult to properly designa polymer magazine that will meet the demands o a soldier in the eld. Only by pushing thelimits o polymer materials and molding technology was Magpul able to overcome thesehurdles when designing the PMAG.

Despite the advantages o polymer over metal, consumers were hesitant to adopt the PMAGdue to negative experiences with earlier plastic magazines. This atti tude changed withincivilian shooting circles, and by extension, among specialized military units ater the PMAGproved itsel reliable. This acceptance then trickled down to a broad spectrum o users,resulting in hundreds o thousands o PMAGs being elded with American and oreignmilitaries, and the issuance o two National Stock Numbers (NSN).

angled fore grIpAs tactics and techniques evolve to address thedemands o a dynamic battleeld, so too must

the weapons and equipment employed by theshooter. Recent years have seen a trend towardshorter, more compact rifes or urban and closequarters combat, along with a dramatic increase

in weapon-mounted accessories. Rail systems, tactical lights, optics, lasers, sound suppressors,and o course, vertical ore grips have becomecommonplace on the battleeld, and are intended

to increase eciency and lethality.

O these accessories, only the vertical oregrip (VFG) attempts to improve weapon control

and ergonomics. Unortunately, dependingon technique, the use o a VFG may actuallydecrease shooter lethality as measured byhit percentage, accuracy, and time to engage

targets. This ineciency can be explained by anumber o actors, but the two primary reasons

are the poor ergonomics o the vertical broomhandle grip, and the placement o the weaponsmass on top o the shooters st, which decreasesweapon point control.

In an eort to avoid these VFG pitalls, manyshooters have adopted a thumb break grip

that utilizes the VFG primarily as a reerence

point, rather than an actual grip. This techniqueplaces the non-dominant hand in ront o theVFG, gripping the weapon hand guard. Although

the thumb break grip can be eective, itsergonomics leave something to be desired.

Unlike conventional vertical fore-grips, the AFG(Angled Fore-Grip) takes into account natural bodymechanics and provides a comfortable and stableuser interface that reduces fatigue and allows formore precise weapon control. By positioning theshooters hand high on the center line of the bore, theAFG helps mitigate recoil and control the weapon,facilitating faster, more accurate ollow-up shots.

InstallatIonThe Magpul BAD Lever allows the shooter to remain ready on re control. Itattaches to the standard AR15/M16 bolt catch without permanent modication
