Hello!

Handmade. Handcrafted. Personalised. I love these words and the emotions they

generate. To me they indicate that someone has spent time and effort, while putting in

thought and skill to make something unique, something personal. That’s the thought behind

my Make It Personal series where I share how to create fun, personalised and unique

gifts. The series also includes projects by some of my fellow bloggers and friends.

What’s common to all these gifts is that they are handmade, fairly simple to make and can

make for a personalised and unique gift for your loved ones.

This series is from my blog I Love Gifting where I write about the gift of love and life and

of course, the right gift for the right person at the right occasion.

Happy gifting!

Country mini chest of drawers

This a gift idea inspired by Denmark. I had a lot of fun transforming a plain piece of wood into something

characteristically Danish — a personalised Danish mini chest of drawers.

This gift is themed on the Dannebrog (Danish flag) with its cross design and red & white colour

combination. The Dannebrog is an intrinsic part of homes in Denmark. The Danish flag weaves its way

nto celebrations like birthdays in the form of cocktail sticks, stickers and gift wrapping paper!

Materials

A wooden mini chest of drawers

Gesso primer*

Acrylic paint and paint brushes

Wood varnish

* The primer will help the seal the wood. It helps the paint stick to the wood.

1.

First apply two coats

of primer on the wood

allowing for drying

time between coats.

2.

Paint the Danish flag on the two

vertical sides of the chest. I used scotch

tape to block the area to be painted in

white and painted red around it twice.

When the red paint is dry, remove the

scotch tape and fill in that space with

white paint. Use two coats of paint

allowing for drying time between coats.

3.

Pull out the two drawers and paint white

hearts around the knobs, while painting

the rest of the area red.

4.

On the top of the drawer chest,

write out a Danish phrase and paint

something that is related to

Denmark. I painted a Viking

helmet and wrote “Vi elsker

Danmark” which means, “We love

Denmark”.

5.

After the paint is

completely dry, spray

some varnish all over.

Varnish helps protect

the paint allowing the

colours to remain strong

for years.

6. 6.

This mini drawer chest makes a

perfect box to store jewellery and

trinkets.

Wrap it up in a piece of see

through fabric, tie it up with

ribbon and your gift is ready!
