Maple Tree

Birds sing in the branches

Leaves dance in the wind

Roots knot in the ground

The fun might soon begin

Leaves whistle in the breeze

Calling me to climb

Bigger than the other trees

Surrounding the maple

Up high in the maple tree

Waves of leaves sway towards me

Never had I seen such beauty

Bird’s song echo through the breeze

Up high in the maple tree

Oak Tree

Reaching way up to the sky

Homes to squirrels and bugs and birds

Who settle down after they’ve had a fly

Chirping from that big oak tree

Peering down, down

To me

Birds dance from branch to branch

Carrying the birds from their last catch

Way up there in that oak tree

Pine Cone

While we know

They are just a big seeds

That grows into

A bigger tree

Wood shells protecting the treasure

Inside

Apple Tree

Pink blossoms

In the spring

Followed by apples

In the fall

Thick and mossy branches

While we know

In the apples is a seed

That grows into

Another apple tree

Reaching for the sky

When sunlight returns

Kapok tree

Towering tall above

The broken-down soil

Feeding off of light

That shines through the canopy

Sun licking the top leaves

That provides shelter

For animals

Roots grasp the ground surrounding

Drinking off of water

That runs in the dirt

Kapok tree towering tall above

The broken-down soil

The

Echo Tree

Always coming back

Endless buzzing of the bees

Roots knotting under sunbeams

Chattering birds talk and have it

Repeated

Repeated

Repeated

Thorn bush

Page 15: Mallory Horner e book

Piercing thorns attack from all edges

Barriers made of blades

As you dash through the hedges

You’ll find them all over the place

Maybe near a group of trees

Under a thorn bush?

What a terrible place to be!

In a forest

Deep and dark

There you’ll find

a forest lark

Follow the lark

And you see

Lots of thorns

But no leaves
