Week 4, TERM 2

Tena koutou katoa Our major focus this week is the BOT Nominations for Elections. If you interested on becoming a BOT member for our school please get nominations to the office before noon on Friday 24th of May. This is the opportunity to have your input on what happens now and in the future for Mamaku School. Our school is in a very good position and I am looking forward to the next three years of the continued development and im-provement of our kura. Mamaku school would like to say a farewell to our students and families that leave Mamaku for the 1st of June turnover or “Gypsy Day” where some farming families move to other areas. if you know of families arriving in the area and they have children, please let them know our school goes from New Entrants (5 years of age) to Year 8 (12-13 years of age). I would be more than happy to show them around the school and look in the classrooms at any time, or send out information regarding the school or they can just make contact with the office to organise a suitable time. Building progress in Rooms 6, 7, rainbow room, old staffroom, resource room and senior toilets is progressing to schedule with the aim to be finished before the end of the term. The builders then move onto Room 2 and 4, then Rooms 1 and 3 in term 3. As you can understand its a bit of a juggling act. Students should not be here before 8.30am in the morning. If for some reason students need to be here before 8.30am parents need to write a letter/email to the class teacher’s for approval. The Mamaku Early Learning Centre does have a OSCARS programme that runs before and after school. Please contact 332 5800. All students should be training for the Mamaku Cross Country that is in week 6 on the 5th of June at the Mamaku Domain. It is really important that we are building up our fitness for this event.. Ngā mihi nui Gary Veysi

In Room 5 this term we have been doing some art around the `The Iron Man book by Ted Hughes. Every week we have been using a different medium to cre-ate our art. In week one we drew pictures of the iron man using chalk, pastels and black paper. In week 2 we used coloured pencils and had a go drawing on the computer. Last week we drew dragons using pastels and then dyed over the top to make our backgrounds. These artworks were created by Zavier (top left), Brennan (top right), Vylet (centre left), Neveah (centre right), Lillie (bottom left) and Zinevaeh (bottom right).

Dear Parents, Students, Guardians, and Whanau, This Thursday, 23rd of May, we will be having our first Senior Camp and Aims Games Info Session. From 5:30-6:00pm, I will be covering the details about our upcoming Senior Camp to Raglan during Term 4, as well as what the projected costs and the scheduled activities will be for camp. From 6:00-6:30pm, Mr. Veysi and I will be going over the Aims Games and the cost for the week long events. If you are unable to attend the Info Session, please feel free to email me with any questions you may have, or stop by the library after school and we can have a quick chat. Best Regards, Mr. Weston/Matua Nate [email protected]

Road Safety Last week we nearly had a few students hit by cars and a student who injured them-selves on a scooter coming to school. A few parents have seen me about dangerous biking to and from school and children crossing roads. The teachers have talked to the students about being safe in the community and Consta-ble Viv has been contacted about our concerns. Please be aware it is up to Parents and the students to make sure they are getting safely to and from school.
