A podcast is series of digital media files shared over the internet, which essentially includes four types:
1. Audio podcast is audio only and usually mp3 format.
2. Video podcast is online delivery of video content and preferred format is mp4.
3. Enhanced podcast combine audio podcast with synced images, similar to a narrated slideshow.
4. Screencast is a digital recording of computer screen output.
iPod NOT Required
You do NOT need an iPod to create or listen to podcasts!
Users can simply listen or download podcasts on their computer.
The iPod or MP3 player would provide the flexibility to listen and view anywhere.
Audacity
Audacity is free, open source software for recording and editing sounds.
Open and save MP3, WAV, AIFF and several other formats
Record live audio through a microphone or recordings from cassette tapes, etc.
