it’s here, Manuelle Magazine is here, and it’s no turning back. and,the time has come to rollout the premiere “texture issue” a visual experience in the exploration of textiles.i found it outstandingthat the definition of texture talked of unity. And, unity is a great parallel of this issue, as it is more than just simple fabrics. as one writer explores the wavering tapestry of don’t ask don’t tell and the effects its appeal. We then dive into our style section where we tackle texture in pattern and all natural textiles with native sun. so on behalf of the Manuelle staff we are now proud to present you our envisionment of texture.

EDITOR’S LETTER

it can take a long time to produce a magazine. the pre-production work that is put into everything take just as much time as the production itself. i am very excited to say we worked extremely hard to make this happen and we will work even harder to keep it going.

Manuelle Magazine is something that will attract on all ac-counts. the vision imagery alone will be enough to keep your mind tingling and you creative side urging for more.

it takes a very stron team to produce such greantess. K shawn dent one of my friends and great stylist, has workd extremely hard on this issue. i seen him evolve & grow into stylist of pure fashion. let alone there is always more to do and more to come. We will go strong and we will go hard.

in schools that have bullying problems or issues, the whole school can suffer as a result of the effects of bullying such as students (even those who are not being victimized) feeling intimidated and tense in their surroundings and learning environment. Just because they themselves are not being bullied, just being around that sort of climate is distressing enough and leads to poor engagement and consequently a reduced capacity to learn. it is hardly surprising to see students struggling with their schoolwork if they do not feel safe and at ease within the boundaries of their school.

nearly 50% of those surveyed revealed they had considered or thought about committing suicide as a result of bullying. sadly to say, this group converts thoughts to actions at approximately 20% of these victims actually trying to commit suicide. to put this into perspective, students who are not bullied have only a 0.07% chance of contemplating suicide. This fig-ure reduces further down to only 0.03% chance of actually attempt-ing suicide. the effects of bullying shows a victim of bullying also has a chance of more than 3 times the normal of suffering depression.

Bullying and the effects of bully-ing is a self esteem killer! Whatever form the bullying takes and also regardless of the content, just about every bullying victim reports that they feel worse about them-selves after they have been bul-lied. especially in our young and developing children, self esteem is critical. Bullies sap this from their victims creating further problems for the victim. nearly 40% of bul-lied victims have low self esteem compared with less than 1% for normal, everyday kids.eFFects oF BUllYinG

denim is a staple. it take you from a night on the town to jumping in the village. it can dress up a look and dress down a look. Yes you can wear denim with a blazer- al-though probably not to your sisters wedding. in a better light, it looks better casual to those in

the entertainment worl who attend the crazed events and jam meets. if you do go for a denim selection, make sure you have a t-shirt with print on it. a plain white one does not work for every-body.

the riGht WaY5 stePs to WashinG YoUr hair

Page 47: Manuelle Issue 2 ROUGH

Washing your hair the wrong way will damage your hair and leave it feeling less than beautiful. For all of your guys out there using the steps below will give you hair a woman will love to run her fingers through.

Wet hair is the only hair that should be shampooed. You wouldn’t wash a car that hasn’t been rinsed off would you? Take time to make sure your hair is thoroughly wet. I am not encouraging anyone to waste water however your hair needs to be wet all the way to your scalp.

Evenly distributed shampoo is best for your hair. Avoid squirting shampoo directly onto your head. This doesn’t allow the shampoo to be evenly distributed. Putting shampoo onto your hands and evenly putting it into your hair will provide your entire scalp with a clean sensation.

Massage isn’t just for your back. Your hair is attached to your scalp is an extension of your body. Mas-saging your scalp does more than just feel good. A quality shampoo, such as the specialized products we provide, can penetrate deeper into your hair with a little massage. Avoid shampooing your hair more than once. Even when your hair doesn’t feel “great” one quality shampoo is far superior to shampooing twice.

Treat your hair with care. Many get rough with their hair. They scrub their hair like it is a pot with stuck on food. Be gentle with your hair. The better you treat your hair the better it will treat you!

Towel Dry. By the time you reach step 5 you should be feeling great. Your hair should have a healthy fun feeling. AND… the towel drying technique is important in so many ways! Please wring and squish your hair, not scrub it or you will hear it cry.

These steps, combined with the right shampoo, will put you on the path towards having the hair of your dreams

pineapple & Banana Spiked DrinkPosted on april 12, 2010 by healthycocktails

pineapples are in season and are Great mixers. this blended, smoothie-like cocktail is really good and

very healthy (no sugar added!). You should probably turn this awkward gem of a song on repeat while you

make this cocktail: the Pineapple song.

Ingredients

20 mint leaves (flexible)2 oz fresh squeezed lime juice4 small to medium sized kiwis (peeled)1 tablespoon of honey4 oz of light rum (vodka and gin also work)2 oz waterIf you’re a pulp lover, combine everything except the kiwi and strain. Then add the kiwi puree as the last step and mix. Hardest part of this drink is peeling the kiwis and pureeing them. Otherwise, pretty easy and great!

Ingredients

1 whole pineapple2 frozen bananas6 oz Meyer lemon juice (~4 lemons)6 oz vodka (or rum)ice (if necessary)

The booze choice is pretty flexible. Rum, gin, tequila will all pretty much work. The hard-est part is dicing the pineapple, which I’ll just have my good buddy Jack

Kiwi Mint lime Posted on March 27, 2010 by healthycocktails

Brief: so i’ve made a couple cocktails before this that were definitely NOT worth posting; however this Kiwi based drink is awesome! it’s strong, so is meant to be served as a martini or in a highball (full of ice). Watch yourself.

Kiwi is loaded with vitamin c and also a good source of fiber, potassium, copper, magnesium, vitamin E, and manganese. so don’t be afraid to add extra kiwi if you have it.

My Journey to the manifestation of my dreams have been a long enduring but passionate one. i started writting songs at the age of 11, i was inspired by Whitney houston’s vocals, Micheal Jackson’s danc-ing abilities and the idea of the “american dream”. at age 10 i became very facinated with reading and writing. i would read en-cyclopedia’s and write short stories and poems. reading and writing had became an excape, after a watching a sPice Girls concert on tV at age 11 i was inspired to write my first song “I Want It Now!” The follow-ing summer and early middle school years all i did was read, and write poems and short stories. reading and writing became a cre-ative excape for me, i could block out any negativity, insecurity and hopelessness with the fantasy i created on paper. My songwrit-ing escape became my songwriting secret, i didnt tell a soul, and whenever my mom, brother or sister would enter my room i’d hide

them. i was so afriad to tell anyone about my songwriting, afraid that they would shut my dream down, i mean how many people say i’m gonna grow up and be famous? doesn’t sound to realistic in the small town i grew up in. But that’s the place my dream was born. in Middle school i remember making a list of everything i wanted to do with my career: Write songs, write screen plays, short stores, create a poem book, be an actor, model and strangely enough, be in my very own PoWerade commercial. Big city dreams for a small country town boy. so all through middleschool and highschool i wrote and i was inspired, by the growing teenager i was becoming and in my late highschool years the ups and downs of my first real relation-ships inspired seas. lakes and mountains of songs.

Page 58: Manuelle Issue 2 ROUGH

By the time I entered my first collage class all i could think about while the professor was teaching is a song, a concept or a poem. Maybe it was just my add kicking in but i believed it was a sign to pursue my dreams full force. i moved to atl, meet with an old manager of a fa-mous singer, who tried to convence me to become a singer which was a no go.

By the year 2009 i wrote a group of songs and found an awe-some upcoming male artist to deMo them so i could send them out for placement. after being turned down by a big music exec because my “Music wasn’t up to date” i spent a few years re-working my sound and craft. By august 2010 i had a slew of songs which were inspired by my 3 years of being single and just en-joying life and partying which i feel have a more modern, futurisic sound with a more pop alternative rock edge. by novemeber that same year I had my first shoot with photog-rapher Freddy-o since then i’ve had 15. I walked in my first

fashion show in February for inter-national Fashion Week, realeased my 10 track eP PartY aniMal at the end of May. i also began my journy in the acting realm by being casted as background for the cW show the Vampire diaries and Usa’s neces-sary roughness. i’m currently looking at a few scripts and will be re-reales-ing my eP PartY aniMal (reloaded & reMixed) september 9.11.11 the sky is the limit, and i still have a few more months to work this year, and i’m not stopping anytime soon! the best is yet to come!
