Folk MUSIC
Western MUSIC The first music called jazz originatedin New
Orleans, Louisiana, UnitedStates around start of 20 th century.
Uses blue notes syncopation, swing,call- and- response,
polyrythm andimprovisation as a key element.
It blends African American musicalstyles with western music
techniqueand theory.
The instruments used in marching bands and dance band music at
