“The MM program has given me so much. The obvious

stuff like the confidence to run distances I never thought

I’d be able to tackle and the opportunity to crack a sub 4

marathon (never thought that would be possible!) But it’s

also brought a fantastic group of similarly insane people into

my life and allowed me to become part of a wonderful

community. Priceless stuff :)”

What’s different and better about this training plan?

DistancesA major part of distance running training involves developing the strong aerobic engine that allows you to run for an hour to several hours without significant discomfort.

The marathon mentor training programs are designed to get enough distance under your belt so that you are adequately physically conditioned and mentally confident that you can tackle your event on race day.

FlexibilityThe Marathon Mentor Training Plans recognise that we all have lives and other commitments that compete with the times we have available for running.

Marathon Mentor plan are designed to be flexible, to allow you to fit your running at whatever time or days that suit you. If you miss a run or two due to circumstance that’s ok, the training plans allow for that too. There’s more than enough running in each plan to allow for some minor variance.

No jargonTo avoid confusion the Marathon Mentor plans are jargon free. The plan uses easy to use terms such as Easy, Effort, Long which are easy to understand and can be applied to your own individual abilities and experience.

No race-pace timesOther plans refer to “race pace” times to set training paces. For example, instructing you to run at your “race pace plus or minus so many seconds”.

If you’re newish to running, finding the right pace can be hard to do. Marathon Mentor plans are designed using an effort rating so it’s easy to set the pace of your training runs.

To avoid confusion the Marathon Mentor plans are jargon free and stick to using words such as Easy, Effort, Long.

Training plans come in many shapes and sizesSome programs are low distance and high intensity, some programs are high distance, low intensity. If you follow them to the letter they might work.

“I didn’t do any group runs either but used

the program to stay on track to achieve my first marathon (Gold Coast)-

one of the most euphoric buzz of my life at the last

250mtrs. Huge help to break down a seemingly insurmountable distance

into achievable chunks of physical effort, mental

toughness and belief. And love the little tips and

encouragement by Chris and everyone else on the

way to getting to the start line and pushing myself

across finish line.”Vic P MM

MM programs give you enough distance to make sure you can get the job done and have enough intensity in them to ensure that you can chase a particular time if you choose.

For use by anyoneOur plans are consciously designed using an effort rating which means the plans can be applied to any runner regardless of their ability or experience.

An “easy” run for a beginner would be at a different pace and speed to an “easy” run for an elite runner. But both runners would know what “easy” run felt like and be able to quantify what an “easy” pace was.

Eat the cake one piece at a time!Another feature of our plan is it is delivered in phases.

Looking too far ahead into a plan can be a bit overwhelming. The Marathon Mentor phased plans allow you to focus and deal with just what’s in front of you.

Have confidence!Getting yourself ready to run a half marathon or marathon means you need to get yourself physically and mentally prepared. By following the Marathon Mentor training plan you’ll be guaranteed to be physically well conditioned and have proven to yourself that you are capable of running the distance.

Standing at the start line you’ll be confident in your ability to succeed!

...regardless of how good your plan is, a plan is still just a plan. Marathon Mentor will help you make that plan a reality.

I really enjoyed a few things - the program

- cause there is no way I would have had a clue

about how to pull together a training program on my

own; the wonderful people who I met throughout the

last two years of the MMs - as a back of the packer and

a 4:30 hour marathoner, the conversations and

friendships developed over those long (and sometimes

sore) hours were/are fantastic and apart from

running the marathon itself, the best thing about the

group; and lastly Chris, just your encouragement and the amount of time

that you put into checking in with people (me) and

making sure we/I was still on track. Karyn D MM

Monitoring and Accountability Recording your training runsSo that you and your coach can monitor your progress against your plan, you’ll need to record your training runs.

The Diary

The Marathon Mentor training plan you are supplied with can be used as your diary to be submitted to your coach periodically for review.

Software Apps

If you already record your runs using an app or GPS watch then your coach will access this software record of your runs and monitor progress against your plan.

Marathon Mentor supports all of the major software and apps used by runners, including Strava, GarminConnect, Runkeeper as well as others.

Review and feedbackYour coach will review your progress and give you regular feedback and if there is variance from your plan offer you advice on how to proceed. You can of course email or phone your coach if you need advice or experiencing difficulties.

If you drift off course, miss runs, or find the going tough for whatever reason, you’ll receive guidance and direction on how to get back on track.

“...running has become a huge

part of my life, I’m achieving goals that were unthinkable a few years ago, But

the best thing by far, is the great friends

that I’ve made along the journey.

Be prepared it will hurt a bit! But jeez

its worth it!” Steve U MM

HALF MARATHON group meets on Saturday MARATHON group meets on SundayEven if you’re used to running on your own you’ll find it easier and more enjoyable to accomplish your long runs with company. Time goes faster, stories and experiences are swapped and friendships are made.

Because the Marathon Mentor training plan is flexible you can decide at what pace your run might be. You might choose to run your Wednesday session as an “easy” day and your Friday run as an “effort” day or vice versa. The choice is yours. During the week Monday to Friday there are a number of Running Domain running groups where you can join in and do your “easy” runs or your “effort” runs.

There’s also a “speed” session to help push you to give your best in the higher intensity sessions. Your coach attends all these sessions and is available to answer questions and give you advice.

What if you can’t make the group runs?If you don’t live near enough to the group runs or can’t make the times of the sessions that’s OK.You can still follow the Marathon Mentor program by yourself and run on your own or with friends at times that suit you to follow your plan.

You’ll still get ALL of the other benefits of Marathon Mentor. You’ll still be closely monitored by your coach and if you can’t meet the coach regularly in person you can stay in touch by phone or email.

the competition of the races but against myself, I loved that it was perfectly acceptable to

run alone but in a group at the

same time. There has been an non-

judgemental “do it the way you need to” space

is how life should be.

...This group is the single biggest

addition to my life as an adult.

Thank you.”Michelle SW MM
