Dog fouling ... in general this ongoing problemseems to be easing in some parts of the village, but sadly one particular area is still sufferinggreatly from irresponsible dog owners, and this isthe footpath which runs alongside Hutton Roadfrom its junction with Main Street up to HuttonBalk. This path is used daily by numbers of youngpeople going to and from School/Playgroup and bymums, dads and grandparents armed with prams, pushchairs and bags of shopping. It is disgustingthat these regular users should have to run thegauntlet of mounds of dog mess from one end ofthe footpath to the other. There really is noexcuse for this.

PLEASE if your dogfouls a footpathmake sure that youclean up straightaway and dispose ofthe poo bag in thebin provided. Themajority of dogowners areresponsible andcare about thecleanliness of thevillage. Theseresponsible peopleare disappointedthat a minority ofirresponsible dogowners taint the reputation of all.

Preparations for springVillage Spring Competitions – this year Hutton Cranswick in Bloom will have twocategories for the photographic competition: Adults and Children under 12 (ie, KeyStages 1 and 2). The subject is ‘Nature in the Garden’, this could include a glisteningfrosted spider’s web or any birds, insects or animals that visit your garden. The morewe make our gardens part of a wildlife corridor, the more interesting and alive thespace will become. See if you can capture something special. There is no fee to enter,

photographs can be any size, mounted or unmounted. Children’s photographs can be taken to school forMonday 21 March 2016. Alternatively, adult and children’s photographs should be delivered to MargaretJenkins, 2 Pinfold Close, Hutton, YO25 9YU, no later than Monday 21 March.

For the garden competition the theme is: ‘The most attractive spring basket or container’. Again there is nofee to enter and residents need only contact Margaret if their basket or container is not visible from theroad. Margaret will tour the village with an independent judge during the week beginning 21 March. Ifnecessary, Margaret can be contacted on 01377 271191.

Winners of all competitions will receive plaques or trophies and a certificate of congratulations. ViB looksforward to the challenge of judging lots of amazing entries!

Dear Friends,Does it seem to you that things in our daily lives arealways changing? Over the last 100 years thedegree and pace of change has probably beengreater than at any other time in our history.Whether it is in our homes, our places of work orjust in our daily lives the changes have beenphenomenal. Yet as humans we always want toresist change. It’s in our very nature not to want tochange because we feel safe in the old tried andtested ways of doing things. When change doescome we fight against it with questions and denialbut as time goes on the new way of doing thingsbecomes familiar and secure.By making changes the human race has moved onfor century after century and without it we wouldstill be living in caves and feeding ourselves ashunter gatherers. Quite a thought isn’t it! It was toeffect change that God sent his Son to live on earthwith us too. God wanted us to learn about the lovehe has for us and how to love him and each otherin the same way. This month we remember the final chapter ofJesus’ time on earth as a human. In the events ofthe Easter story we learn how many rejected thechance God gave them to change and live in lovetogether as he always intended. Jesus sacrificed hislife to take the punishment for all our humanweakness and give us a chance to be forgiven if werepent for the times we have hurt God by ourfailure to live as he wants us to.But on Easter Day we see the power of God inresurrecting Jesus and the fulfilment of his promiseto all who follow Jesus; a life beyond our earthlylife for all eternity. This is indeed a story of thepositive effect of change if we choose the right kindof things to change. You will be aware that Brian Lees is retiring fromhis ministry here as our Priest in Charge. There willbe a lengthy period while the position is vacant andbefore a new person is appointed. During this timethe Churchwardens and I will be keeping the usualpattern of services in our 6 parishes as far aspossible. The ministry team of Gwyneth, Trish andMartin along with me will continue leading servicesalong with visiting clergy where possible. Howeverthe pool of retired clergy is in great demand thesedays and some services may be different from thenorm. This is particularly the case with services ofHoly Communion.Despite the difficulties, a period of vacancybetween Vicars can be a great time of joy andgrowth in our faith with time for reflection and anew sense of direction identified. Please keep usall in the 6 parishes in your prayers as we put ourtrust in God to show us who and what he wants forus in the next stage of our Christian journeys withinthis group of communities. Change there will be buttogether we can accept it and move confidently intoour future with God and each other.May you be greatly blessed this Eastertide, Hilary

Nature in the gardensReaders will note from the Village in Bloom report that the topic for thespring photographic competition is ‘Nature in the garden’. By coincidence,The Bulletin has received some wonderful pictures and descriptions from alocal resident whose place of work is a very special garden!

Burnby Hall Gardens in Pocklington have been described as "a jewel inYorkshire’s crown” and have been awarded the prestigious Yorkshire inBloom Gold Award for six consecutive years (2010-2015).

For the last couple of years, Peter Rogers has been photographing theseasons at Burnby Hall Gardens. He has been amazed at the spectacularvistas that are created by sunlight on the lakes, sunrises, and the changingcolours of the trees and flowers.

Recently Peter has started looking more closely at the bird life which existsin abundance there. The winter period allows the opportunity for the

resident birds to be seen more clearly against the stark skeletons of the trees, once the leaves have fallen. Thequieter periods of the year, when visitor numbers are lower, allow for sightings of species who only allow usfleeting glimpses when it is busy.

The most notable of the bigger birds is the heron. This magnificent bird can often be seen in the early morningstanding motionless next to the Upper Lake or high in the redwood tree surveying the world. It must havefantastic eyesight as it is away as soon as it gets even a glimpse of anyone in the Gardens, often from asubstantial distance away.

The most colourful bird seen fluttering regularly above the Upper Lake and diving into the water in search ofsmaller fish is, of course, the kingfisher. The kingfisher uses the signs for the water lilies as perches fromwhich to survey both lakes and it is a joy to see. Amongst the abundance of smaller birds, of which it has beenestimated there are at least twenty-four species in the Gardens, are the friendly robins. Next time you visitBurnby Hall Gardens, why not have a careful look around yourself and see what birds you can you can see andhear in this wonderful location.

Burnby Hall Gardens and Museum open for the new season on Saturday 19 March 2016. For furtherinformation, please visit: www.burnbyhallgardens.com where you will find more delightful photographs andinformation about events. Between 23 April and 7 May the Gardens will be hosting the fourth annual TulipFestival, which is well worth a visit.

[Thank you to Peter Rogers for raising awareness of these delightful Gardens – just a short drive away.]

Driffield OctopussiesAre you aged 16+?

Are you a competent and enthusiastic swimmer?

Do you perhaps need some volunteering experience for your CV, either for a college application/Duke ofEdinburgh Award Scheme, or just for personal fulfilment?

Could you give up an hour of your time weekly early on a Friday evening?

Driffield Octopussies have for some time been operating a most successful session for disabled swimmersof all ages at Driffield Leisure Centre, either for teaching complete beginners or to improve the swimmingskills of those attending. The organisers need more assistance from young people during this session, principally to accompany disabled youngsters who are trying to swim lengths but who perhaps lackconfidence in their own abilities. There are always Life Guards and Swimming Teachers in attendance – theadditional need is for confident, able-bodied swimmers just to swim alongside and back up the help alreadyavailable.

You would have to provide your own transport to the Leisure Centre, but there would be no entry chargeand your help would be greatly appreciated ... the session runs from 6–7 pm each Friday. If you areinterested, please ring LINDA SIMPSON on 01377 255192 for more details.

Could this be You?Have you ever:-

○ wondered how your favourite magazine gets put together?○ wondered what it would be like to have a hand in publishing

something?○ had the urge to do a little research and write up your findings?○ looked at the computer you bought last year and felt as if you could

Their contribution to the success of The Bulletin has beenconsiderable. They have helped to secure a satisfactory income, which, together with the precept from the Parish Council, ensuresthat The Bulletin currently has a sound financial foundation.

Joe & Anne received a planter of colourful spring flowers to showappreciation for all the work they have done over the past eightyears. The rest of the team wish them a long and happy retirement.

Sue Jackson, current treasurer to The Bulletin, has agreed tocombine her role with that of liaising with advertisers. Sue canbe contacted on: 01377 271247 or advertisements andcorrespondence can be sent to: [email protected] for Sue’sattention.

Describing a make believe animal by Grace in Year 5

How is the Red Pandafent Equipped in this Biome? The red pandafent lives in the Australian Rain Forest. It is asslow as a turtle because it can only go 3 miles per hour. The temperature is 30 degrees Celsius. It eats bamboo andnuts and it‛s very heavy like a 100 pound weight. The redpandafent is so STRONG it can throw a GIANT!!!It‛s quite long and it can climb trees because its body is a redsquirrel and it can climb trees REALLY tall trees but its legsdangle down. The fur is unusual because the head is grey because of thepanda, red fur for the red squirrel and no fur on the legs justscales. The red pandafent is a tiny bit strange because it has a Pandahead, a red squirrels body and elephant legs.
