President Richard called the meeting to order with “My Country, ‘Tis of Thee,” accompanied by Holly Wal-lace on the new piano. Dick Gingold led us in the Invocation.

Cholet announced there will be a Tour of the Capital at District Conference and a Golf Tournament organized by Dean Burns.

• PETS went very well thanks

to Jay Wilkins and Sue Reis-man. Fred stressed the im-portance of the District Assembly and other upcom-ing dates on p, 2

• Bill Grossman encouraged everyone to become a bene-factor by committing to give $1,000 at death to The Ro-tary Foundation.

• Pres Richard announced there would be no fines for Dan Maffei during Richard’s term.

PANCAKE REPORT Holly Wallace announced

that Pancake Day is May 9th at Shoppingtown. Harold Graves said the Ad Dead-line is April 17th right after Tax Day. He told story of Holly coming to his Tip Group where he has tried to sell tickets. She got all 20 members to buy ads. Mark Strodel reported on Pan-cake Day: Mark said we have over $1,000 in ticket sales so far.

• Your record collection is stocked only with very short artists, Paula Abdul, Sheena Easton, Prince, Phil Collins.

THE OFFICIAL RO-TARY FLAG

An official flag was for-mally adopted by Rotary International at the 1929 Convention in Dallas, Texas. The Rotary flag consists of a white field with the official wheel emblem emblazoned in gold in the center of the field. The four depressed spaces on the rim of the Rotary wheel are colored royal blue. The words “Rotary” and “International” printed at the top and bot-tom depressions on the wheel rim are also gold. The shaft in the hub and the key-way of the wheel are white.

The first official Rotary flag reportedly was flown in Kansas City, Missouri, in January 1915. In 1922 a small Rotary flag was carried over the South Pole by Admiral Richard Byrd, a member of the Winchester, Virginia, Rotary Club. Four years later, the admiral carried a Rotary flag in his expedition to the North Pole.

Some Rotary clubs use the official Rotary flag as a banner at club meetings. In these instances it is appro-priate to print the words “Rotary Club” above the

PROGRAM Dan Maffei, alumnus of the

Jowonio School introduced our speakers Peter Irwin and Ann Sutherland.

Peter Irwin is Director of Development. He gave some history and told how our money is used to support the mission of the school which will turn 40 in October.

Ann Sutherland is Program Director and told about the new programs at the school including the Ceramics Pro-gram which was started with Funding from DeWitt Rotary. Also she showed slides of the new Trike Town which is an-other project we have helped with our donations. Now they are building a Rotary Park with funding from our club.

In addition, they have ser-vices for all children, 35% of whom have challenging condi-tions. Dr. Michael Miller and President Richard Jenkins pre-sented a check for $2,500 for part of our continuing support of the school.

In court, the trucking company’s lawyer was Ques-tioning Paddy. “Did you not say, Paddy, at the scene of the accident, “I’m fine,” asked the lawyer.” Paddy responded, “Aye, an I’ll be tellin’ ye about that. I had just loaded me favorite ol’ mule, Bessie, into the..” “I did not ask you for any details, the lawyer Interrupted. Just an-swer the question. Did you not say, At the scene of the accident, “I’m fine!”? Paddy said, “Aye, I had just got Bessie into da’ pick-up an I was drivin’ down da’ road to County Cork when ...” The lawyer interrupted again and said, “Judge, I am trying to establish the fact that, at the scene of the accident, this man told the Minnesota Highway Patrolman on the scene that he was just fine. Now several weeks after the accident he is trying to sue my client. I believe he is a fraud. Please tell him to sim-ply answer the question.” By this time, the Judge was fairly interested in Paddy’s Answer and said to the lawyer, “I’d like to hear what he has to say about his favorite ol’
