Curriculum Night: Thursday, September 15

All Pre-K through Gr. 8 parents are invited to join their child’s

teacher for an overview of the subject matter curriculum. This

event is an opportunity to hear firsthand what is expected of

your student in the coming year. Please note there will be

multiple sessions to accommodate families with students in

Primary, Middle or Junior High levels. Details of the time

for each level will be announced in SHS News Notes.

The students of Sacred Heart School offer this prayer in

memory of those who lost their lives on September 11th:

Loving God of Peace: On this anniversary of unbelievable

sorrow, comfort those who continue to mourn. Guide our hearts

toward healing and hope. Remind us of the love of Christ, love

which leapt over cultural and ethnic boundaries to feed the

hungry, seek the lost and care for the least. Make of Your

children one human family, bound together in the work of justice

and peacemaking. Make us one with the Light that shines in the

darkness and illumines a path toward understanding

and reconciliation. Let love be our genuine call. Amen.

From Our Deacon Candidate I recently recalled the passing of Fr. Moe Rochefort,

beloved pastor of St. Michael Parish in Exeter, who died on

August 9, 1999. His sudden death left a huge hole in the

community. Many times, Fr. Moe helped build a bridge and

made us feel as one, usually mentioning his favorite word -

shalom. Shortly after his death, a priest friend told me,

“You buried a saint.”

Fr. Moe cherished his ministry at the Rockingham County

Department of Correction in Brentwood: celebrating Mass,

hearing confessions and sharing God’s love with the

inmates and staff. Several months after Fr. Moe died, New

Hampshire Catholic Charities recruited a ministry of

laypersons to continue with Eucharistic Services at the jail.

I answered that call and have witnessed Christ working

behind bars for the last 16 years.

Pray for us, Fr. Moe, as we pray for you.

Shalom.

Steve Kaneb

The following couple recently participated in the

beautiful sacrament of Holy Matrimony:

Justin Robert Orr & Katie Anne Brophy

We pray that God will continue to bless them and strengthen them as they begin

their new life together as husband and wife.

OLMM Choir News The OLMM Adult Parish Choir is accepting new members

for the 10:30 a.m. Choir Mass. This non-auditioned,

mixed voice choir will reconvene on Sunday, September

11th with a warm-up starting at 9:30am before Mass in the

St. Catherine Laboure Meeting Room. Rehearsals will then

follow the 10:30am Mass, beginning at 11:45am-1:00pm

each week. All voices, (sopranos, altos, tenors and basses)

are needed and welcomed. For further information, contact

Pat Mackensen at 926-2823.

Young Voices Needed!

Our Children's Choir will resume

singing in September, and all boys

and girls in grades 3-8 are invited to

join us in glorifying God, learning

about music and our Catholic Faith, and enriching the

Mass through sacred music! The first practice will be

on Wednesday, September 7th at 6:15pm and then

weekly rehearsals will be on Monday nights thereafter

at 6:15pm, and we sing each Sunday at the 9 am

Mass. Interested? Contact choir director Jolene Nelson

at [email protected] for more information.

WHY SHOULD I ENROLL MY CHILD IN THE

CHILDREN'S CHOIR?

REASON #2: Learn the Mass! Choir members do not sing at Mass. They sing the Mass. Over the course of the year, they learn the order of the Mass, the structure of the liturgical seasons, and the Biblical sources of the words we pray. As their understanding deepens, they see that it is through the Mass that Christ continually redeems his beloved, and renews the face of the earth - and they become more and more aware of their mission to bear Christ to the world.

WE NEED YOUR HELP

If you attend daily Mass at 9 a.m., please consider

assisting the parish as a Sacristan. As you may recall,

Pauline Dupuis served in this capacity for many years

and retired from this voluntary post twice. I am

grateful to Lisa Savidge who stepped up to the plate to

volunteer her services the last few years. However, due

to other obligations, she is no longer able assist as

Sacristan on a daily basis. If you have the time and are

interested in assisting the parish in this capacity, please

call the Parish Business Office as soon as possible or

speak with Fr. Gary at your earliest convenience. We

are grateful to Lisa for her time, energy and service to

the parish.

Below are just a couple of the CD titles available in our Lighthouse Media Collection:

What Every Couple Should Know About Marriage and Prayer What is the secret of a successful marriage? How can couples deepen their commitment to one another in Christ? Beloved Catholic orator, Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen illuminates the path by focusing on the essential role that prayer must play in every marriage. His anecdotes and stories illustrate his points and make his teachings more memorable and more easily applied to everyday life.

The Truth What is the meaning of life? Fr. Larry Richards tackles life's biggest question with straightforward, timeless, and often jolting answers. In this one-of-a-kind, life-affirming reality check, he unlocks the mysteries of our existence and opens our hearts and souls to the meaning of life. The Truth will give you concrete answers on how to live. We kindly ask for a donation of $4.00 per book (or otherwise specified suggested donation), $3.00 per CD, $2.00 per booklet and $0.50 per pamphlet so that we may continue this program. Please make all checks out to “OLMM.” Won’t you reach out and help bring someone home?
