Mat storage to stop germ spread Make sure: 1. The mats & linens don’t touch one another – so we don’t spread germs and head lice. Store blankets and sheets with each child’s mat or cot, not all in the same drawer. 2. The sheets can stay on the mat when stored, saving SO much time for teachers (especially for 1 year olds taking 2 naps!). 3. Preschoolers and older toddlers can be independent, getting their mats and helping put them away

Preschool mat storage• Storage so the mats don’t

touch each other• Create a system so the

children can be independent in getting their own mat

• There are different styles so you could use either one piece or folded mats.

• In some styles, you would have to store their blankets in another cubbie box, not touching other kids’ blankets.

Yes, Stacking Cots are Good!Because the child’s face surface does not touch the next cot’s face surface.

You can also leave each child’s blanket on their cot. You don’t need to fold the blanket into a small square – just fold the blanket loosely in half or quarters – to allow it to dry and air a bit in the stack. Leave it on that child’s cot, then stack the next cot & blanket.

We have wall hanging mats…

Make sure to hang the mats alternating with sanitized “face” side to “face” side and dirty floor side to dirty floor side.

Usually, one side is blue (face) and the other side is gray (floor).

Teachers sanitize the face side every day after nap.

Hang them so the colors touch – blue to blue, gray to gray – so the 2 sanitized sides are touching.

Toddlers: if you have 4 section folding mats, install a separate shelf for each child

You can leave the sheet on mat for the week, so if the child gets sleepy, it is easy to put his mat out. Install high for play space under. Install low if 2 year old children assist with getting their own mat out at rest time.
