On Pentecost (wear red on May 23!),

the youth in our confirmation class who join

Trinity will make a vow of membership.

They will promise to be loyal to Jesus Christ

and support Trinity UMC by their prayers,

presence, gifts, service, and witness. Those young people

will promise God that as a church member, they will:

1. Pray for the church

2. Attend church (worship, S.S., and other activities)

3. Give money and other resources to the church

4. Give time and energy to the church

5. Share their faith in Christ by their words and actions.

Just as a marriage vow expects that a husband and

wife will keep their promise each day, not just occasion-

ally, the membership vow expects that a Christian will keep

their promise regularly. It will be a habit, not a hobby.

Following Jesus is not something we do only when there

are poinsettias or lilies decorating the sanctuary, or the

youth group is going on a big trip. Being a disciple is not

something we do only when the mood happens to strike.

Faithful Christians do not disrespect God by only giving

Him leftovers, whatever happens to be left over (if any-

thing) of one‟s time, talents, and treasure. Following Jesus

is not for the faint of heart.

Speaking of giving, when $100 is placed in the

offering plate, here‟s where it goes:

$ 81.79 stays at Trinity for our programs and expenses

14.49 is used by the Annual Conference *

3.72 is used by the General (global) Church **

---------

$100.00

* 54% of the conference askings ($7.85 of the $14.49) is

returned to support the local church through payments

made to fund pensions and health insurance, provide grants

and loans to new and existing churches, and train pastors

for ministry. As a result, $81.79 + $7.85 = $89.64 of every

$100 given ultimately ends up helping the local church.

** 53% of this amount ($1.97 of the $3.72) is used for

Global Missions.

May 2010

When you receive your giving statement for January

-March, please compare it to what you committed in your

heart to give during 2010. Whether you turned in an

“estimate of giving card” or not, last fall our Stewardship

Committee asked everyone to pray about what God was

calling us to give back to Him this year.

In the first quarter, did you give at least 25% of

what you committed in your heart to give? If not, will you

ask God to help you make a plan to get back on track? By

being faithful, let us all be a good role model for our youth

who are preparing to become our newest members.

Pastor David

From the Director of Children & Youth Ministries

“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept

the faith”. These words were from the apostle Paul when he was in the

Roman prison in his final days. It is our job as a congregation to uphold

and support our children and youth to get them to this stage in their lives.

We have been talking about leading people to Jesus in our Won-

derful Wednesday program. We played a game last week that focused on

if we were paralyzed, how that might feel to live that way and then one day

be told to get up and walk. When we sat down to talk about what hap-

pened during the game, everyone had a different perspective on what it felt

like to only be able to use their upper body. I allowed some to get up and

walk during the game just like Jesus said to the paraplegic who was low-

ered down into the room by his four friends. The response from the ones

allowed to get up and walk sounded like this. “It was awesome”, “I was

thankful”, “It was so much easier”. Now the ones that had to stay para-

lyzed sounded like this, “This was hard”, “It wasn‟t fair that the others

could walk”, “I am tired”. We can only imagine what it was like for this

man to be brought Jesus by his four friends and then to be told, “Get up

and walk”. The great part about this story is that we can help lead people

to Christ just by inviting them to come with us to church, open a door, or

even just a simple smile with love attached.

Trinity has seven senior high men that will be graduating this

May. I am excited to see what they will do with their lives in the next

several years. I feel confident that they are currently and will continue to

battle for Christ as they move on to college or the work world. Please

continue to keep all of them in your prayers as they go out into this not so

friendly world.

Peace, John Redmond
