Landscape folio Hb. with a magnetic catch over the fore-edge, covered in archival brown paper (which refl ects that used during the marking and cutting of suit templates). Series of plates featuring various stages in the drawing, cutting and preparation of a suit with some having translucent titled guards. The book, Dead Man's Patterns, is a form of narrative, arising from the character of English menswear into a book about a man, a pattern, and a tailor. This narrative begins with an ordinary discovery of a set of bespoke patterns originally cut by Savile Row Tailors Dege & Skinner, which belonged to a customer who is now sadly dead. These fragments are woven together to form this unusual story. Very scarce. £80 - £120

667'The Flying Duchess.' An autograph Album featuring a letter signed by 'M. Bedford' (Mary Russell - Duchess of Bedford) on 'Woburn Abbey' headed note paper together with a small, accomplished water colour of a sea bird by her on the facing page signed M.B. and annotated 'Woburn Abbey vii. iv. xvi'. The Duchess was a keen Birdwatcher. The Album belonged to Nurse Winifred Parry who was at that point serving as a Nurse at a local Hospital Unit set up at Woburn for WWI casualties. The album also has autographed entries from Nursing colleagues at Woburn in 1916 and from colleagues at various other locations at different dates including two double page sections relating to K Ward at St. Nicholas Hospital in 1949,1950 & 1951 featuring a larger

number of signatures together with multiple miniature cartoons. In other respects the album is typical of the genre and includes a number of epigrammatic & humorous entries and other accomplished water colours. It also enables the reader to track Winifred Parry's nursing career. £200 - £250
