SG Flensburg-Handewitt vs Telekom Veszprém HC

• Both sides are equal on 15 points - like THW Kiel

• Veszprem coach Ljubomir Vranjes was eleven years part of SG Flensburg-Handewitt, as player, sports director and coach

• Vranjes steered Flensburg to their so far one and only participation at the VELUX EHF FINAL4 in 2014, crowned with the trophy

• SG coach Maik Machulla was Vranjes’ assistant coach until the Swede left to Veszprem. Machulla’s assistant coach Mark Bult is still listed as player too

• Veszprem were part of the last four VELUX EHF FINAL4 events in Cologne - and hope for ticket no. 5. Never before in the history of the tournament has a club qualified for five straight times

• Veszprem were finalists twice in Cologne (2015, 2016) and in total three times (2002), but never won the trophy

• Veszprem play their 23rd Champions League season; Flensburg their 13th

• Flensburg’s left wing/centre back Kentin Mahe will follow his former coach Ljubomir Vranjes in Veszprem from next season onwards

• Besides Mahe, goalkeeper Mattias Andersson (end of career), line player Hendrik Toft Hansen (PSG Handball) and playmaker Thomas Mogensen (Skjern) will leave Flensburg after this season

• Six current Veszprem players - Gabor Ancsin, Momir Ilic, Dejan Manaskov, Petar Nenadic, Andreas Nilsson and Kent Robin Tönnesen - played for German clubs before

• Ilic (2010 and 2012 with Kiel) and Nilsson (2013 with Hamburg) even won the Champions League with German clubs

• Nilsson will duel with Swedish Mattias Andersson, Jim Gottfridsson, Tobias Karlsson, Simon Jeppson and Hampus Wanne. Gottfridsson, Jeppson and Wanne were silver medallists at the EHF EURO 2018 in Croatia

• Flensburg have more Danish players in their squad than German (7:5)

• After his knee injury during the warm-up in the match at Paris (when he clashed into his teammate Lasse Svan), Anders Zachariassen is back in the Flensburg squad

• After winning the trophy three straight times and making it to the final in 2017, Veszprem are not playing in the SEHA Liga this season

• Veszprem had their last VELUX EHF Champions League away match on German court and lost 22:20 (Kiel)

• Mate Lekai is Veszprem’s top scorer with 64 goals; Holger Glandorf tops the SG ranking with 48 strikes
