Hey there I just want to ask you a couple of questions for my A-Level Media course! I am just going to ask you a couple of questions about music. For my A-Level in Media, I have been asked to make and produce an music video, although I have chosen my song, I feel I need further research into both the genre, song and target audience, to come up with my final ideas. I have chosen the pop music genre, from Katy Perry’s most resent album Teenage Dream ‘Last Friday Night (T. G. I. F). I have interviewed a male, Mathew, 17 (M) and a female Shanne, 21 (S) (And myself D). D: Right firstly what is your preferred style of music genre? M: I love pop music and rock, I think this is because they are both lively but also because my brother is in a rock band so he has influenced my choice in music, and pop music is defiantly an influence from society as it is what is played on the radio stations and music video channels. S: Well I suppose because I'm a uni student, and I go to a lot of clubs, pop music is the best for being able to have a nice sing along, and a little dance to, but I like dance music too, although I love pop music in resent times I also really enjoy the oldies from the pop music genre!! D: If I said Katy Perry to you what would you associate with her as a music artist? M: she is most defiantly fun and an upbeat character which is reflected into her music, but it is also easy to listen to and I think that’s why it appeals to such a wide range of people, not only her music but pop music in general. S: As a music artist I would associate pop music, a lot of dances, easy listening, and some relatable songs, for example teenage dream, but her I kissed a girl track is not relatable to me, but its a fun upbeat song and definitely a pop music classic because of its fun random lyrics!! D: On a Friday Night what would you usually do and/or wear? M: On a Friday night I usually end up going out with my friends, either to the pub, a party at a hall or a gig but most often I go to my friend’s house either to chill for a drink or a party. To them kinds of places I like to keep it simple, so smart casual is the best way, a casual shirt or polo top, jeans, plimsoll trainers. S: Again because I go to uni, Friday night is the beginning to a relaxing weekend, so I tend to go out, so I would usually wear a cute trendy dress and a nice pair of heels, maybe a blazer to finish it off, but that usually goes in the cloakroom so I tend not to bother with that one if I can, just means more money!! And if I'm going to a friends flat or house for a party I'd wear similar but maybe dress it down a tad, so a top and skirt with my heels or flat shoes!! D: When you watch a music video what do you think makes a good music video? M: Something that is different, I don’t like people who copy cat videos unless it’s for a joke. Something that I can relate to, so parties, clubby/dancy music. Lots of people to make it interesting but the attention must be on the main singer. Either from a concert or a relating story line, I don’t enjoy random music videos, that make no sense as to way that video has been chosen. And good use of different visual aids is key to an amazing music video for me. S: A good music video is normal one that has a storyline, because that way you have a way to remember it clearly, and it has to be something that u haven’t seen before, colours and costumes are my two favourite things to look at and it also has to be busy, because you want to be slightly confused therefore at the end you understand everything, which keeps you watching the video and you don't change the channel!! D: If I said Last Friday Night was the title of a music video what would you aspect from the music video? M: A party of some sort, drinking, drugs, loss of memory, hangover, dancing music, everything that a normal young adult would be doing on a Friday night I guess. S: I would aspect a party scene which would seem pretty mad or crazy and someone looking back on what happened, quite clique, but its something that a younger audience could relate to!! D: What do you aspect from Katy Perry’s music videos? M: Something fun with a little bit of romance, lots of colour and people. Dancing is usual for Katy Perry, many props some random and very vibrant. S: From Katy Perry’s music videos, I usually like to aspect the unexpected, it will usually have a lot of boys or revolve around boys - which is fine, I'm not complaining (Shanne winks)!! Bright colours, and a teenage storyline, so falling in love, party or a dream of being famous!! Her dress sense is usually a big matter in her videos, weather it be trendy and cute or crazy and outrageous, either way the audience is intrigued!! D: Thank you for your time. -Demi O’Shea
