The specific topics are listed below. Lifestyle choices and preventive measures are emphasized throughout the course as well as the important role scientific thinking and engineering design play in the development of interventions of the future.

Attendance and Make-up Work If you are absent, make-up work is your responsibility – I will not remind you to obtain or complete work. Any assignments that were due while you were absent must be turned in the first day you return. Students

should obtain any make-up work needed from the appropriate location upon return. Students have one day to make up missed work for each day absent. (Exceptions are tests and labs, for which

you may be given up to 1 week to make-up, depending on the length of absence). Tests and labs must be made-up during sixth period. You must stay until you have finished the test or lab. In

addition, if you need help with other make-up work, you must obtain it during sixth period. If you are absent for a field trip, see me for your work ahead of time and to turn in any assignments that will be

due.

Assignments and Grading

All homework and assignments are due on the due date, at the beginning of class. Late work may be corrected but will be given a score of ZERO.

Homework and other assignments will be provided on the LMS for each lesson. It is your responsibility to know and complete the assignment.

Your 3-ring binder and laboratory journal must be kept organized with class materials according to the guidelines provided in class..

Students are expected to do their own work; copied or plagiarized work will receive a zero. See student handbook for further details.

Labs

Lab procedures will usually be given ahead of time to read and study. You should come to class prepared for labs with appropriate materials and be familiar with the procedures.

Lab safety rules should be followed at all times; no exceptions! Consequences for violating lab safety rules include removal from the lab with zero credit and disciplinary referrals.

You will often work on labs with a partner or group so your data may match other students. However, answers to questions on the lab should be done individually. Students turning in identical answers will receive a score of ZERO.

Tests and Quizzes

Four Unit Tests will be given throughout the two trimesters of the course. Quizzes will be given at the end of most lessons. While the assessments are quizzes, they are differentiated

from tests, not because they are less difficult, but because they cover a smaller amount of material than tests. A cumulative final exam will be given at the end of each trimester of the course and is worth 20% of the overall

grade. The trimester coursework is worth the other 80%. PLTW requires that all students enrolled in MI take an End Of Course Assessment they have developed for the

class. This test will be administered at the end of the second trimester of the course.
