Kaua’i is something out of a daydream—or so it seems. this fourth largest and oldest island in the hawaiian chain is awash with greenery, deep with canyons, and sculpted with mountain peaks accompanied by the dance of waterfalls. on Kaua’i, nature is intensi-fied to an astonishing degree.

there’s virtually no spot on the “island of Discovery” that doesn’t warrant a second glance or inspire visitors to linger. the views are vibrant and saturated with color, and nuanced with depth and shadow. Kaua’i, as inspiration and muse, is a pow-erful one for visitors who come for both leisure and business.

history is accessible at every turn here, too, adding to the island’s depth of appeal. the first settlers arrived around 200 A.D., and relics of Kauaʻi’s past are treasures for modern-day travelers to enjoy. The Kōloa Heritage Trail along the island’s south shore invites a self-guided tour of geological wonders and historic sites that reflect Kaua’i’s sugar planta-tion past. The 1,000-year-old ʻAlekoko menehune Fishpond comes with fascinat-ing legend—of a population of mischie-vous little people (menehune) who built the ancient system in just one night.

Visitors to the island may not complete such spectacular feats of engineering during their stay, but there are ample

opportunities for achievement in adven-tures including high-adrenaline water-sports, hiking and ziplining. Luxurious resorts pamper, beautiful beaches beckon, and small towns are delightful with art galleries, cafes and shopping boutiques. The best Kauaʻi souvenir? A forever-etched impression of awe at its sheer splendor.

Kaua’i: The experience Kaua‘i’s list of action adventures leaves a multitude of options for groups: there is activity in the ocean, on Kaua’i’s rivers (the only navigable ones in the state) and throughout the whole of its varied land-scapes. Zipline challenges take groups through lush rainforests and mud buggy adventures show off fertile valleys backed by mountain peaks. there is horseback riding and hiking for every level of ability, with generous scenery as the reward for the effort. World-class botanic gardens are lovely for walking through but also enchanting as special events venues.

the best (and some say only) way to really see Kaua’i, though, is from the air. skydiving may not be for everyone, but a Kaua’i helicopter adventure is an unforget-table treat that most attendees will thrill

Kaua‘iThe island of Kaua‘i landscape offers contrasting views and textures, fromthe golden beach at Hanalei Bay to the waterfalls at ‘Ōpaeka‘a. A trip to

Kaua‘i can be as adventurous as an Indiana Jones movie. By land, navigate an ATV through mud as you tour famous movie locations or go off-road for an exciting ride. By water, tour operators offer excursions along the

Nāpali Coast in either a catamaran or a rigid-hulled ocean raft.

at. It’s then that the 3,567-foot-deep and 14-mile-long Waimea Canyon best comes into view with its color spectrum of hues.

A look at the jagged sea cliffs off the Nāpali Coast also comes with the ride but why not plan a catamaran adventure so attendees can marvel at their 3,000-foot-high stature from the water’s surface? The many miles of sunny coastline also include some of the best snorkeling, surfing and beach activity in the Pacific. A corporate boogie boarding challenge gives groups a chance to enjoy the gentle waves of Po‘ipū Beach. Later, sore muscles get special treatment in one of Kaua’i’s lavish spas, with gourmet dining at a top island restaurant—many serving up spectacular sunset views along with the meal—ending a perfect Kaua’i day.

of view: no buildings on Kaua’i are, by policy, taller than a coconut palm tree. Some of the hotels are spacious enough to accommodate sizeable groups for meetings, but the island’s best suited to executive retreats, small to mid-size corporate groups, and incentive adven-turers. With more than 4,000 rooms, the island’s varied hotels and resorts range from value-oriented to ultra-luxurious, and offer a wide array of meeting, and indoor and outdoor event space.

The largest meeting space on Kaua’i is a 17,500-square-foot ballroom that can accommodate up to 1,500 people for ban-quet seating and smaller meeting spaces are plentiful. There are exclusive resorts with spas and such, along with more

relaxed, casual properties, too. Off-site event venues run the gamut, with most designed to show off the scenery.

GettinG in and GettinG aroundKaua’i’s airport is two miles east of Līhuʻe, the hub of government and commerce on the island. More than 20 regularly sched-uled daily flights from Honolulu serve Līhuʻe Airport for the 25-minute trip, and there are also connections from Maui, where the air travel time is 45 minutes. Several airlines offer non-stop service to Kaua’i directly from the mainland.Navigating Kaua‘i is easy and exploring its perimeter shoreline is a must-do while on the island. There are many scenic over-looks around the route, so plan time to stop for photo opportunities.

float through open tunnels and flumes (headlamps provided) on the gently flowing water.

Hawai’i’s “Hollywood”Many Kaua‘i locations give off a feeling of familiarity—with good reason. Kaua‘i has been the location for more than 100 Hollywood movies and television shows, including South Pacific, Blue Hawai’i, Raiders of the Lost Ark and Jurassic Park. Identifying the sites in “name that movie”−style makes a great challenge for groups of any size that can run the length of an entire multi-day program.

Measuring upKaua’i’s resorts are nestled into its sur-roundings—all that without interruption

(From left) Team morale gets a boost when kayaking the Wailua River. A couple enjoys the view from Waimea Canyon.

Fore Fun Kaua’i’s seven top-ranked golf courses are always ready for a chal-lenge; celebrity sightings of pro players can be an extra reward.

Brush Strokes Take a group to the art town of Hanapēpē where galleries are filled with local artists’ images of the island. It could take the rest of the day to find and click a photo of every location. On Friday Art Night, galleries open their doors for music and dining in the streets.

Float On A tube ride down old sugar plantation canals, which date back to the late 19th century, is an experience unique to Kauaʻi. While marveling at the canals’ construction, attendees will
