Mega Beanie Beginner Knitting

MEASUREMENTSFits head (approx) 54-56 cm

YARN Mega Morbidone 1 x 100g ball

NEEDLES AND EXTRASA pair 9mm knitting needles, or size needed to give correct tension; wool needle.

TENSION11 sts and 16 rows to 10cm over stocking st, using 9mm needles. To work a 15cm x 15cm tension square, using 9mm needles, cast on 16 sts. Work 24 rows stocking st. Cast off loosely. If less sts use smaller needles, if more sts use larger needles.

ABBREVIATIONSapprox = approximate, beg = beginning, cm = centimeters, cont = continue, K = knit, P = purl, rem = remain/ing, rep = repeat, RS = right side, st/s = stitch/es, stocking st = 1 row K, 1 row P, tog = together, WS = wrong side.

BEANIEUsing 9mm needles, cast on 46 sts.Beg Rib - 1st row (RS) - K2, * P2, K2, rep from * to end.2nd row - P2, * K2, P2, rep from * to end.Rep 1st and 2nd rows 4 times more = 10 rows rib in total.Work in stocking st until work measures 16 cm from beg, ending with a purl row.Shape Crown - 1st row - K2, * K2tog, K2, rep from * to end = 35 sts.2nd row - Purl.3rd row - Knit4th row - Purl.5th row - K2, * K1, K2tog, rep from * to end = 24 sts.6th row - Purl.7th row - Knit.8th row - Purl.9th row - * K2tog, rep from * to end = 12 sts.10th row - Purl.Break off yarn leaving a long end. Run end through rem sts, draw up tightly and fasten off securely.

FINISHINGTip: For a less bulky seam, if desired, use strong sewing thread.Using half mattress st seam, join side edges together to form centre back seam. Sew in all ends. Using remaining yarn, make a pom pom and attach securely to top of Beanie as pictured or add a purchased pom pom as pictured.
