The musical texts contained in this publication are a

reprint of thirteen Kurdish popular songs that Father

Komitas transcribed during his long pilgrimages in the

East, together with all the popular and classical mu¬

sical heritage of Armenia.

Father Komitas transcribed the popular texts in a more

elaborate style: by sticking closely to the Kurdish

melodic structure, he managed to obtain an authentic

musical form, devoid of superimpositions and conta¬

gion from neighbouring cultures.

The transcriptions reproduced here were first publish¬

ed in December 1903 by the P. Jurgenson printing-

house of Moscow, and were edited by the Lazar Insti¬

tute. They are reproposed here as milestones for a first

approach to Kurdish music, and as a subject for se¬

rious study, despite the fact of having been neglected

for many decades.

I testi musicali proposti nella presente pubblicazione

sono una ristampa di tredici canti popolari Kurdi, che

padre Komitas ha trascritto durante i suoi lunghi pelle¬

grinaggi in Oriente assieme a tutto il patrimonio musi¬

cale, popolare e classico, dell'Armenia.

Padre Komitas ha trascritto i testi popolari in uno sti¬

le più elaborato: attenendosi alla struttura melodica

kurda, è riuscito a dare una musica autentica, priva

delle stratificazioni e delle infiltrazioni delle culture

limitrofe.

Le trascrizioni che riproduciamo vennero pubblicate

per la prima volta nel dicembre 1903 dalla stamperia

P. Jurgenson di Mosca, a cura dell'Istituto Lazar.

Vengono qui riproposte come pietre miliari per un

primo approccio alla musica Kurda, come oggetto di

studio importantissimo e tuttavia trascurato per molti

decenni.

4. KAMARThe series Kamar (arc, belt, legate) aims to present a collec¬

tion of fragments, studies, essays on various aspects of the

visual arts, the literature and the present-day life of the mino¬

rities and minority cultures.

The texts will be published in the languages chosen by the

authors since this series is pluralistic in content and opinion

and will reflect in its linguistic forms the multiple dimensions

of the minority conditions.

La collana Kamar (arco, cintura, legato) si propone di presen¬

tare una raccolta di frammenti, studi e saggi concernenti i

molteplici aspetti dell'arte, della cultura e della realtà socio¬

politica minoritaria.

I testi saranno nelle lingue prescelte degli autori poiché la

collana, pluralistica nei contenuti e nelle opinioni, anche

linguisticamente rispecchia i mu-ltiformi aspetti della condi¬

zione minoritaria.

La série Kamar (arc. ceinture, légat) se propose de présenter

un recueil de fragments, d'études et d'essays concernant les

multiples aspects de l'art, de la culture e de la réalité socio-

politique minoritaire.

Les textes seront publiés dans les langues choisies par leurs

auteurs, car cette série, pluraliste dans son contenu et la

variété des opinions exprimées, veut refléter aussi dans sa

forme linguistique les aspects multiformes de la condition

minoritaire.
