Membership commitment for the 2018 St Leonard’s

Swing Band, Stage Band, Jazz Band and Big Band

Rehearsals & Performances

Membership of the Swing, Stage, Jazz or Big Bands requires attendance at all regular and extra rehearsals and at all

performances. Members must always be prompt and well prepared. If a band member is unable to attend due to ill

health they must advise the director of this as soon as they become aware of this. If a band member becomes aware of

a clash with another school activity they must advise their band director immediately so that the director can try and

work around that clash.

2018 regular band rehearsal schedule:

SWING BAND - Fridays 7.20am

JAZZ BAND - Fridays 7.20am (and occasionally Tuesday or Thursday 7.20am)

STAGE BAND - Fridays 3.40 – 5.10pm (and occasionally Tuesday 7.20am)

BIG BAND - Tuesdays 7.20am and Fridays 3.40 – 5.10pm

*** All members are also required to organise and participate in student lead weekly sectional rehearsals

Camps and tours

Every band member must be available for the Swing Band, Stage Band, Jazz Band & Big Band residential camp that will

take place on Monday 15 Jan to Wednesday 17 Jan and also for their choice of core orchestra, core choir or core band

camp. The first performance for all four bands in 2018 will be at the Big Band Sunsets Jazz Festival in Mordialloc on

Saturday 3 February between 2.30 and 5.30pm. All band members must be available for the Mt Gambier National Stage

Band Championships to be held on Friday May 4 May to Sunday 6 May.

Core Ensemble & improvising chairs

All Y7-11 St Leonard’s vocalists and instrumentalists are required to participate in a ‘core’ ensemble. This may be a choir

(Senior Choir, Tenor Bass Choir or Soprano Alto Choir), an orchestra (SLSO or St Leonard’s Philharmonic) or a concert

band (Wind Symphony, Symphonic Band or Concert Band) or the Electric or Acoustic Guitar Ensemble. Any band

member hoping to gain a ‘solo’ chair such as 1st Tenor, 1st Alto, 2nd Trumpet, Guitar, Piano etc. must also be in one of the

College jazz ensembles to practise that skill.

I am available for all rehearsal times for my band as stated above

I am available for the Big Bands Camp on 15-17 January as well as my core ensemble camp in January

I am available for the Big Band Sunsets Festival performance on Saturday 3 February

I am available for the Mt Gambier National Stage Band Awards on 4-6 May. *Please note that there is a cost for

travel, accommodation and entry to this festival that in 2017 was $560 (or $525 excluding a tour hoodie)

I am available for all appropriate College music events including the 2017 Festival of Giving (3 Dec), 2018

Community Day Fair (17 March), 2018 Music Festival and the 2018 Jazz Night (30 Apr)
