Volker Mornhinweg, Head of Mercedes-Benz Vans

Welcome to Mercedes-Benz VansNothing is more exciting than the future. Our world is changing and, with it, so isMercedes-Benz Vans. Accordingly, 2016 was an exceptional year for us for a numberof reasons. Not only did we exceed the previous year’s record result; with ouradVANce future initiative we also initiated considerable change in our field of activity. In the process, we are developing from a pure producer of vehicles into a providerof holistic system solutions. What initially sounds abstract is something that wehave already proved very specifically with our Vision Van. We are turning thevan into a networked and fully electric logistics centre on wheels, offering ourcustomers perfect solutions for the urban, digital age. With adVANce, we aretherefore proceeding far beyond the vehicle and developing ideally tailoredsolutions for different sectors. That this approach is absolutely correct is reflectedby the positive feedback from numerous customers, for instance. Our current position of strength enables us to make these key investments in thefuture. Last year we managed to boost our sales by approximately 12 per cent, to atotal of 359 100 sold vehicles. The strongest sales driver was our midsize segmentfeaturing the commercial van Vito and the spacious V-Class MPV. I am also pleased with the ongoing success of our iconic Sprinter. Our longestseries in service enjoys unfaltering popularity. We have meanwhile delivered farmore than three million of these all-round talents. Besides, the Mercedes-Benz X-Class is a further production series we will bring tothe market at the end of 2017. This means that the world’s first premium pickup willclose one of the last gaps in our portfolio. We already gave an outlook on our pickupin the autumn of 2016, at the presentation of the CONCEPT X-CLASS. Like 2016, the year 2017 will once again turn out to be an extremely successfulyear for Mercedes-Benz Vans. I wish you entertaining reading and a safe ride at alltimes!
