There’s no true substitute for a good trainer conducting an instructor-led training class – a trainer that knows the people and the equipment and can communicate his or her knowledge and expertise to the technicians. Online training—with its expanding range of course material, easy access and ability to monitor a participant’s progress, has set a new standard for customer and product support.

Meritor Commercial Vehicle Online University offers a complete mix of web-based courses providing the added value necessary in today’s fast-paced environment to satisfy customers’ needs for Meritor product training.

The Online University was established to provide the commer-cial vehicle industry with a comprehensive learning curriculum that offers the product knowledge and skills-training required by today’s commercial vehicle customers at the dealer and fleet level. It incorporates the latest, most effective online tools available in web-based education into a system designed to provide Meritor product training, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

To educate the Commercial Vehicle Industry on current and new Meritor branded products, Meritor has developed its product training Online University website. The website training curriculum has a broad course offering to support the needs of technicians, dealer and aftermarket sales professionals, drivers and warranty administrators. Meritor currently has over 100 web-based courses that cover the company’s full range of products for the Commercial Vehicle market. The site is continually evolving and new courses are added on a regular basis.

The training curriculum is divided into three vehicle categories: Truck, Trailer and Bus & Coach products.

Each of these categories contain several course types, including: Component Identification, System Operation, Preventive Maintenance, Diagnostic and Repair.

Who Should Complete the Online Courses?l Commercial Vehicle Service Techniciansl Commercial Vehicle Sales Professionalsl Commercial Vehicle Dealer, Fleet, and OEM

General Courses – Technicians progress through a series of three courses that will educate them on identifying/describing the Meritor product, proper component/system operation, and preventive maintenance of that product.

Diagnostic Courses – Technicians progress through symp-tom diagnostic courses that identify real-world product issues. The courses provide proven structured diagnostic paths to identify the component causing the system issue.

Repair Courses – Technicians progress through product specific repair procedures that include video, animations and still images to help technicians assimilate information. A series of hands-on “Apply It” opportunities, in which the technician uses their computer mouse to increase the level of learning through interactivity, is included.

Create hierarchy structureThe Meritor Online University allows each customer to have

the flexibility needed to manage their internal training activities from a managerial, regional, and individual technician basis. The hierarchy customer structure functionalities include:

l Assigning your own company training administratorl Adding and removing learnersl Creating sub-groups within your specific customer number

to track each location separatelyl Generating reports by user name or by groups to monitor

training progression

The diagram below illustrates the hierarchical customer structure programmed in the Online University website.

In the above example, the Level I Company Training Administrator would report on and administer all Level II and Level III users, as well as assign additional administrators for satellite locations.

The assigned administrator at Level II would report on and administer users within their administrative assignment, which is Level III in the example above.

The hierarchy structure can accommodate a wide variety of company sizes. Flexibility allows for administration from small to large companies.

Create course curriculumThe Meritor University also allows customers to create and

administer a course curriculum goal for their employees. Once the course curriculum is created the user will have the ability to click on the Curriculum Goal and see the details of their course curriculum. The user will be able to launch any given course directly from this listing giving the user an easy method of reaching their training goal. The curriculum building features are:

l Training administrators can create customized training curriculums for each learner or a group of learners

l Curriculum goal reporting for managers to review goal progression

l Dashboard display to allow each user to monitor their training progression

l Dashboard display to allow the user easy access to view their course curriculum and launch directly from this listing
