ROTARACTORS VISIT LEBANON

Josh Beck is a local Rotaractor who visited Lebanon this past July along with five other Rotaractors from around the world. He was the only American chosen for this trip, and he shared exciting experiences about the country. He was hosted by District 2452 which is made up of 24 clubs in 9 countries in 3 continents! He spoke of the sectarian government, the multigenerational families that lived together, the tension that exists between the government and citizens, and their fierce national pride. He noted that there were three languages spoken in Lebanon – Arabic, French and English. He spoke of the region’s climate, the landscape and food preferences. While in Lebanon, Josh participated in a group service project that assisted the non-profit organization Offrejoie. He and his colleagues spent time cleaning and readying a school for upcoming classes. He showed photos of their work, and highlighted the “march of the water tanks,” which involved transporting heavy water tanks to the roof of the school via manpower only! Josh spoke very positively about his time in Lebanon. He encouraged Metro members to be supportive of the local Rotaract Club, and he expressed a willingness to work closely with our club in future fundraisers and service projects.
