Ranchera

• Ranchera is a form of Mariachi that was form in the 20th century.

• The themes of Ranchera music vary between love, patriotism, and from everyday lives of farmers.

Mariachi

• Mariachi is traditional folk music that is mostly known for there romantic meanings.

• Mariachi’s music is a mix of numerous regional music styles, dances--such as waltz and fandango--originating from Europe and rhythms and melodies from Africa.

Corridos

• Corridos was developed in the 20th century.

• It was developed to tell stories about heroes, crimes, and betrayals from Mexico’s revolution in an epic ballad form.

• Today, the topics of the corridos are more modern, even taboo, and they can vary from drug and human trafficking to illegal immigration.

Banda

• It is a Brass-based form of traditional music.

• This kind of music is a mixture of ranchera, corridos, and boleras.

• They also play Mexican pop, rock, and cumbias.

• This was developed in the 1880’s in a state in northwestern Mexico called Sinaloa.
