    Course Organization:This course will follow mainly a lecture format. Students are encouraged to ask questions on

    the course and to share any personal experiences which are relevant to the topic.

    Methodology:Lectures, Presentations, Group Work, Visit to various Healthcare Organizations, Case studies,

    Role plays, Quizzes, Workshop & Conferences.

    Evaluation Scheme: (Except Hospital Visits)INTERNAL SEMESTER EXAMINATION - 30 %EXTERNAL SEMESTER EXAMINATION - 40 %QUIZZES/ PRESENTATION/ ASSIGNMENTS/CP/PROJECTS/ATTENDANCE - 30 %

    The University has a policy of awarding letter grades and the overall performance of a student

    is indicated in terms of Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA). No class is awarded for thedegree of Master of Hospital Management. Further, attendance through out the semester upto

    85% is compulsory with the consideration of 75% of limit.

    From the academic stand point, it is neither possible nor desirable to convert Cumulative

    Grade Point Average (CGPA) into equivalent percentage marks.

    At the end of each semester, the performance of students will be evaluated in terms of letter

    grades and reports which have the following equivalent grade points and connotations :

    (a) The student is required to fulfill the following conditions :(i) to maintain an average grade point of 2.00 at the end of each academic

    year.(ii) should not obtain more than one ["F"] in an academic year.

    (iii) during the academic year, he/she should not have obtained more than 4 ["D"s] =

    [(D+), (D), or (D-)] without ["F"] in any course, OR 2 ["D"s]= [(D+),(D), or (D-)]

    with ONE ["F"] in any course.

    If a student does not fulfill any of the requirements given under (c) (i), (ii), and (iii) above,

    he/she will not be promoted to the next year/declared eligible for conferment of the Degree.

    In case of failing, he/she will have to repeat the courses in which he/she has obtained [D+] or

    lower grades as well as fulfill the requirements given under (c) (i), (ii), and (iii). All the rules

    applicable to a regular student shall also be applicable to such a student i.e. payment of full

    fees as a repeater student, appearing in mid-sem, end-sem etc. examinations, attendance

    requirements, etc.In case, a student obtains ["F"] grade in a course but secures an average grade point of 2.00

    during an academic year, he/she will have to obtain at least [D-] grade in the said course in theensuing semester/year.

    If a student has not been able to complete any course, he/she will be given ["I"] report

    implying incomplete. This grade will have to be removed within a specific time period as

    allotted by the Department, failing which he/she will be given ["F"] grade.

    (b) Besides a satisfactory performance in various courses during the first year, the student will

    also have to complete satisfactorily the summer project in an organisation arranged by the

    Department and submit a project report which shall be evaluated for Satisfactory or

    Unsatisfactory performance. In case of Unsatisfactory report, he/she will have to repeat the

    same at the end of the second year.

    (c) After the successful completion of the two-year programme as per the requirements laid

    down as above, the University will issue a consolidated transcript of all the semesters and astudent will be awarded Master Degree in Hospital Management (Master of Hospital

    Management).

    *Hospital Visits: Students shall be taken on a visit to a minimum of 3 Hospitals of different

    category, Govt. Hospital, Trust Hospital, Single specialty Hospital, and Corporate Hospitals.

    They have to spend around 50 hours which includes the visit time, the presentation and report

    writing time of the visits. Evaluation will be based on the attendance, reports andpresentations by the students. Atleast two of the Hospital should have more than 100 beds. It

    will remain compulsory requirement to every students to visit hospitals as per above,

    otherwise the student would not be taken to 2nd

    Subject : Healthcare Environment & Policies [HM101]

    1. Objectives :This course will provide an orientation regarding healthcare system of India with reference to pre-independenceand post-independence scenario, various committees and various national and state health programmes. It willfocus on Preventive and curative aspects of Health with special emphasis on Public Health and the changingpattern of diseases. Another important aspect will be the evolution of Healthcare providers/ Hospitals since thelast 50 years. It will help the students to understand the role of government in Healthcare, current Healthcarepolicies and the need for their revision with the ever changing Healthcare environment. Students will be guided

    regarding the three tier system in Healthcare (by lectures and field visits) and will be provided a brief overviewabout the comparison of Indian Healthcare system/ Environment with that of other countries.

    The Course is the study of individual and group dynamics within an organization setting.

    People with diverse backgrounds and cultural values have to work together effectively and efficiently in a healthcare organization.     1. Objectives :

    The provision and production of health care have different characteristics and incentives from other consumergoods; making health related market a unique topic for study. The subject will cover a number of topics

    including basic economic concepts important for the study in health economics, why health is different fromother good, aspects of the Indian health care market, as well as discussing the importance of health for

    Subject : Hospital Visits [HM108]

    1. Objectives :

    To provide comparative understanding of various kinds of hospitals: their method of working, physical layoutsand working conditions.

    2. Scope :

    Unit 1Introduction to Hospitals and Health care facilities Government Sector, Trust Hospital, Corporate sector Nursing Homes

    Unit 2Visit to various hospitals (five Hospitals) guided by concerned Faculty and Hospital professionals:

    A brief introduction is given by the host hospital on the medical and administrative functions of the hospital.

    Students have to make report of organizational structure and Department Hierarchy with their role at the time ofvisits. Students while visiting the various departments will observe the physical layout, working conditions. Thestudents write notes on the salient features. Students will have to do Functional study of each department and

    write a note on the departmental role.

    Unit 3A structured report is prepared by the student on each hospital visit.

    Unit 4Compilation of the reports into one major report, presentation of the report by the students.

    PedagogyStudents have to visit atleast five hospital of different Category; Government hospital, Trust hospital, single

    specialty hospital, and corporate hospitals. A Project Report/Journal should contain details of main departments

    of Hospitals, along with its location, space requirements, equipment needs, manpower, functions, etc.

    EvaluationProject Report/Journal Preparation: 40%Presentation/viva voce: 30%

    Classroom performance, visit, attendance & tutorials: 30%
