Miami-‐Dade  County  Water  and  Sewer  Department    •    www.miamidade.gov/water

Overview During the next 20 years, the Miami-Dade County Water and Sewer Department (WASD) will embark upon a $13.5 billion dollar program to update and deliver its residents and visitors high quality water and wastewater services. In an effort for WASD to continue to deliver safe, potable drinking water to its residents every day, this program is designed to increase its service capacity and improve the aging infrastructure and deteriorating water and wastewater systems. As we upgrade the system utilizing state of the art technology, it is WASD’s intent to foster the financial growth of local businesses by making opportunities available to them. WASD is creating a mechanism to generate an economic engine that shall increase the employability of the local community. Our work program is outlined in our Capital Improvement Program (CIP), which includes programs such as:

•  Consent Decree (CD) •  Pump Station Improvement Program (PSIP) •  Ocean Outfall (OOL) •  Additional improvements to our entire water and sewer system

www.miamidade.gov/water

Economic Impact All businesses, large and small, as well as local workforce, will have an opportunity to provide services on design and construction portions of the WASD Capital Improvement Program (CIP). Overall, it is projected that CIP projects will create 16,470 new jobs over the next 10 years. CIP projects will require specific trades and certifications which will be listed on actual bid documents. The following, while not comprehensive, is a list of typical trades and certifications which will be used on CIP projects:

•  Carpenters •  Electrical Workers •  Iron Workers •  Laborers •  Machinery Erectors •  Operators •  Pile Drivers •  Truck Drivers •  Welders
