Malibu, CA. OngoingStudio Terpeluk

Studio Terpeluk is currently designing a 10,000 SF residence in the hills of Malibu. Before taking on the project, the site had already been through 10+ years of permitting, design, and numerous other geological and environmental studies. We were hemmed in by the initial design for the site, which set the limits of the building’s footprint and square footage. Working strictly within the parameters of the building permit and other site specific factors, we were faced with the challenge of creating a warm and welcoming design that would suit both personal and professional requirements for our client, while emphasizing both the views of the hills to

the North as well as the expansive ocean views to the South.

Boston, MA. Completed Spring, 2015Jennifer Carpenter Architect

Jennifer Carpenter Architect was chosen by Converse to design their new world headquarters in Boston, MA. The 200,000 SF office is located on the revitalized Lovejoy Wharf in a former warehouse. In addition to the existing eight story structure, the design added a two-story addition and a standalone pavilion. I was given the task of brainstorming design options for key components of the spaces--including the main entrance stair, the communal workpods that appear on many of the office floors, and the standalone pavilion. In addition to researching materials and fixtures, I prepared

many of the renderings and models for the design presentations and contributed to the Design Development drawing set.

LOVEJOY PAVILIONThe Pavilion provides accessibility to the wharf from the street level above, and was to serve as a point of contact between the office building, the adjacent street, and the revitalized Harbor Walk. The lower level of the Pavilion was outfitted as a Converse retail store while the upper floor became the home of a professional recording studio, Rubber Tracks.

WHARF ENTRANCE STAIRConverse employees will enter the Headquarters from the Harbor Walk through the only Converse space on the lower wharf level. One of the design challenges was to design a prominent stair without compressing the already small space. We wanted the stair to visually lead up to the main reception area and act as a connecting element between the wharf level and the 1st floor.

COMMUNAL WORKPODSPart of the Headquarters’ design was the incorporation of informal, flexible, communal workspaces that could be used by all of the employees. We conceived of this component as a recurring element on each office floor which could be visually and physically accessed by each of the other floors.

New York, NY. Completed Spring 2012Jennifer Carpenter Architect

After having designed and coordinated the production of the annual ICFF (International Contemporary Furniture Fair) Studio since 2008, Jennifer Carpenter Architect was chosen to design the Bookstore, Bar, and Newsstand for the 2012 fair. I was given the opportunity to spearhead this project and developed an inexpensive, demountable, and re-usable installation. The design used stock lengths of 2x4 lumber, painted in 27 different shades and connected by a simple dowel connection to create a colorful pause

point for attendees of the busy trade show.

New York, NY. Completed Winter 2012Jennifer Carpenter Architect

Jennifer Carpenter Architect was awarded the chance to design the new retail display system for Flywheel Sports, a growing fitness company born in NYC. We performed multiple design studies to capture the company’s fast-paced, competitive atmosphere while meeting their need for a flexible, easy to install system. We coordinated the production of mockups and prototypes and helped create user installation guides. The system was first implemented at their Upper West Side location in New York

City and is currently being installed in locations around the country.

Panama City, Panama. In progress.Jennifer Carpenter Architect

Jennifer Carpenter Architect designed the 13,000 SF renovation of an oceanfront penthouse for a couple and their four children. I developed many of the custom millwork pieces--including researching and specifying materials and hardware. I produced renderings of each of the designs to present to the clients and provided design drawings to the project architect in Panama City. In addition to designing much of the millwork, I sourced and coordinated furnishings and finishes for many of the interior spaces and worked with the manufacturers and vendors to ensure a collection of pieces that met both our firm’s and client’s

standards and tastes.

New York, NY. Fall 2014.Argosy Designs

Argosy Designs won the bid to fabricate the structure for a custom mezzanine in a NYC luxury condo. A full height bookshelf is integrated into the mezzanine system and anchors it to the adjacent wall. The floating corner of the system is hung from the existing concrete beams above. All of the structural members were custom fabricated from laser cut 1/2” steel plates and rolled pieces of stock steel. In order to meet both structual needs and design alignments, an immense amount of coordination

between our shop and the GC and other subcontractors was necessary.
