PUBLIC THANKSGIVING AND PRAYERAnd I recommend to the inhabitants of theTerritory that, refraining from all labor inconsistentwith the duties and solemnities of the day, theyrepair to their respective houses of public worship, and unite in suitable acknowledgments to the"Giver of every good gift," for the favor andprivileges He has granted to us as a people.     For the establishment of a governmentsufficiently free for all the objects of rational liberty, and yet strong enough to repel external assaults, and to repress internal dissensions.     For the mission and mediation of His Son, ourSaviour, for the revelation of His own will in thegospel, and for the influence and extension of theChristian religion, the true foundation of our hopeshere, and of our happiness hereafter.     For the means of education and instruction, andfor the general diffusion of information, by whichall classes of our citizens may be taught their dutiesand their rights, vice and immorality may besuppressed, virtue encouraged, and the salutaryrequisitions and restraints of the laws promoted.     For the prevalence of social order and generalprosperity, for the favorable seed time andabundant harvest, and for the employment andsubsistence, which are everywhere offered toindustry and enterprise.     For the amicable relations which exist betweenthe United States and the powers of the earth, forour exemption from war and all other calamities bywhich, in the providence of God, nations arepunished for national crimes; and for our generalprogress in all the elements of improvement andprosperity.     And while with humble acknowledgments, werecall the past and, enjoy the present, let us implorethe divine blessing upon the future: That ournational, political and religious advantages may bepreserved, and the fair inheritance we possess, andwhich will become an example or a warning to the

The next Michigan Civil War ReenactorConference:

Saturday,November 9, 2013

Be sure to mark your calendars and plan on joiningus.

We understand that some of you were confusedover there being two conferences this year - wewere too!! We were not contacted by either thecoordinator or the organization that is supportingthis other endeavor. In fact, the other coordinatorhad stated in 2010, after many years of puttingtogether the conference, he was ready for a breakand with the arrival of the Sesquicentennial; itmade sense to open the conference to otherorganizations as well. This other coordinator wasalso a member of the History Partners but suddenlyand without explanation, resigned from thecommittee.

For most of you, having two different reenactmentsat Antietam, Shiloh or Gettysburg just a week ortwo apart is nothing new. In most cases, it is only adifference of the vision and mission between thetwo event sponsors. In either case, the end result isthe same and that is to provide the best educationalevent possible for the public with the needs of theparticipants in mind. We are confident the sameapplies to the reenactor conference.

We are however, concerned that by having twocalendars of events, there will be confusion as towhich one has the latest information, updates oradditions. And of course by having twoconferences, there is the chance that some units and

organizations may choose to attend only one whichwill result in an incomplete discussion regardingevents and more.

Although we are unsure of future efforts by theother coordinator, the Michigan Civil War HistoryPartners, officially recognized by the MichiganHistorical Commission, will continue to host theannual Michigan Civil War Reenactors Conference. You can be sure that our website will contain themost up-to-date information as provided by youand other groups. And at least for the duration ofthe Sesquicentennial, the Civil War Circular will bedistributed monthly by History Remembered, Inc.as another communication tool.

A Great Day in Detroit -

Saturday, November 3 dawned with brightsunshine and some cool temperatures.  Close tofifty members of the Department of Michigan, Sonsof Union Veterans of the Civil War snd reenactorsmade up the Civil War section in the Metro DetroitVeterans Day parade.

Camps 1, 2, 14, 17, 22, 67, 135, 139, 145, 180, and 427were represented.  (My apologies if I missedanyone.  I put this list together from trying toremember who I saw.)  Members of the 4thMichigan Infantry and the 102nd United StatesColored Troops were present as well.

It is always rewarding to see what seems to be athousand members of area Junior ROTC programsmarching in formation.

Following the parade, many went to eitherAmerican or Lafayette Coney Island to enjoy alunch a Civil War soldier would never have hadconsidered - a Coney dog with all the trimmings.
