A Midwest ADVENTURE MAGNETMichigan’s Dragon at Hardy Dam (Dragon Trail) will be unlike any other trail system in the Midwest. A challenging hiking and mountain biking loop, the trail will boast spectacular water views and valleys and connect over 2,000 campsites and countless recreation opportunities located at existing area campgrounds.

Surrounding the Hardy Pond Reservoir, the trail draws its name for the reservoir’s aerial resemblance to a Chinese Dragon. Hardy Pond, the third largest North American earthen dam east of the Mississippi River, spans more than 5,000 acres made available to the public by Consumers Energy, in partnership with the Michigan Department of National Resources, Newaygo and Mecosta Counties, Big Prairie Township and many private small business owners.

Built with environmental stewardship in mind, the completed trail will connect the Edge Pathway System and the North Country Trail, with a planned future connection to the White Pine Linear Trail.

An Economic DRIVERThe Dragon Trail will annually generate $4.15 million in economic activity and draw 100,000 visitors each year, according to a study conducted by the Michigan State University Center for Economic Analysis. The study estimated 70 additional jobs will be created in the region as a result of the significant economic impact of the trail system.

Experience THE DRAGON Though the entire trail is in progress, multiple segments of the trail are open with more segments opening in coming seasons.
