IRON

WHAT IS IRON?

• An essential trace mineral that is needed in the formation

of hemoglobin which is the part of the blood that carries oxygen.

WHY DO ADOLESCENTS NEED

ADDITIONAL IRON?

• Due to increased growth, the need of adolescents for iron

is increased

• Females, especially, need additional iron when

menstruation starts because of the loss of blood; and

since their iron requirement cannot be met by their food

intake, supplementation is needed

• Males, however, can attain their iron requirement from

their food intake

FERROUS SULFATE?

It treats and prevents iron deficiency anemia (IDA) which is

a condition that occurs when the RBC do not carry sufficient oxygen to the tissues of the body

WHAT IS THE RECOMMENDED

DOSAGE FOR FEMALES?

One tablet once a week at least 1 hour before meals or 2

hours after meals

• A water soluble vitamin needed for normal growth and

development

WHY IS VITAMIN C IMPORTANT?

• Improves immune function

• Promotes absorption of iron

• Functions as an antioxidant

• Heals wounds and scars
