Instructions to Candidates on Mid-Year Examination 1 Students should be punctual for all papers. When a pupil is late, he/she must produce

the Permission Slip for Latecomers to the invigilator. No student is allowed to sit for the paper if he/she is more than 15 minutes late.

2 Students are to sit according to their class register numbers according to the seating

plan in the classroom or at designated exam venue. 3 All bags, books and files, must be placed in front of the classroom or behind the school

hall/range (within visibility of the invigilators). Students are allowed to carry only their stationery and calculators (only if the paper requires use of calculator) to their desks.

4 A student who attempts to obtain unfair assistance or is detected for dishonesty, copies

from another student or allows his/her answers to be copied by another pupil will be awarded zero mark for the paper. In addition, he will be suspended from class and his/her parents will be notified. He/she will be given demerit points and his/her conduct grade will be affected.

5 There must be absolute silence when the question papers are being issued or collected.

Students are not allowed to turn over the page until they are told to do so by the invigilator.

6 No student is allowed to leave the examination room before the end of the paper. 7 A student who is absent from a paper must produce a Medical Certificate to the Form

Teacher immediately upon his/her return to school. In the absence of a Medical Certificate, the student will be awarded zero for that paper.

8 Students are to write on both sides of the writing paper provided unless otherwise

stated. Read all instructions and questions carefully. Remember to write the number of the question attempted clearly on the left hand margin.

9 Students are not allowed to borrow or lend stationery/calculators/any other materials

while the test/examination is in progress. 10 Between test/examination papers, students are to stay away from the classrooms and

the hall. Throughout the examination period, all students are to show consideration for others by keeping the noise level low.

11 Students are not allowed to bring into the examination room any electronic or

communicative devises or computerized aids capable of storing visual and verbal information. These include hand phones, Personal Digital Assistant (PDA), Pocket P.C. and unauthorized calculators. Should any of these be found in their possession during the test/examination, it will be deemed as a dishonest act.

12 When the use of dictionaries or texts is permitted in the test/examination, students must

ensure that only approved dictionaries and texts are brought into the examination room. These dictionaries or texts must be free from any notes or marginal annotation. Separate pieces of papers, such as post-its and tape flags are not allowed. No critical works, teachers’ notes, study notes, or any other ‘secondary material’ of any kind should be brought into the examination room. Students who contravene the regulations on the use of dictionaries and texts are liable to the same penalty as those who are found guilty of dishonesty or malpractice in the test/examination.
