The MIKRON HPM 600 three-axismachining center from GFAgieCharmilles is, due to its strongand robust construction, particularlywell suited to machining in the HPM(High Performance Milling) field.
The MIKRON HPM 600 is designed,due to its modular construction, forall application areas from prototyping,to tool and mold making, to fullyautomated production; this is due tothe large number of options and theircompatibility.

Table variations 3-axis machining at its best
Work table with T-slotsOn the MIKRON HPM there is an idealdivision of torque between theworkpiece and the tool. Simpleloading and set-up of workpieces isensured.
The heavily ribbed cast iron worktable offers robust and universalclamping solutions. The axial (axiallyparallel to X) arranged T-slots enablediverse workpieces to be mounted.
The generously sized table enables anadditional workpiece to be manuallyloaded in addition to the automaticallychanged pallet.
For simple manual loading ofworkpieces, a table with parallel T-slots is available.
Dividing headThe optional dividing head performsrotary movements. This 4th axis canbe rotated in both directions.

Versatile solutions for many different sorts of applications
The accumulation of chips in theworking area can consistently beavoided. With sophisticated detailedengineering of the raised machinetray, chip build-ups are avoided andthe accrued chips are reliably andeconomically separated from thecooling lubricant and disposed of.There are various construction varia-tions available for this.

A reliable spiral chip conveyercombined with a lift-up chip conveyortakes care of automatic swarfremoval, in automated mode amongstothers
Cooling lubricant container with 2 chip basketsThe accrued chips are removed fromthe machine and conveyed into thechip baskets. The cooling lubricantruns through the basket into thecooling lubricant container. The filledbasket is pushed up onto a slope, sothat all the cooling lubricant candrain. At the same time, the secondbasket is laid under the chip ejectionagain.
In the container, the cooling lubricantis passed through sieves to separateit from further chips and is thenpumped from the container through afiltering sieve to the belt filter unit ordirectly back to the cooling lubricantnozzles of the tool spindle. Thecooling lubricant container stands onrollers and can be removed withoutbeing dismantled.

Whichever machine configuration youchoose, with a MIKRON HPM you getthe most up-to-date tool spindle tech-nology: vector control for full torquein the lower speed range, highlystable ceramic hybrid spindle bearing,and spindle casing cooling using acontrolled coolant system for con-sistent temperatures for the entireduration of the work.

The new HPM series also wants fornothing with regard to tool quantities.The customer can choose betweenthe two solutions integrated into themachine for either 30 or 60 tools.
The side-mounted magazinesoptimally protect the tools frompollution, and can be equipped at thesame time.
Tool changer with double armgripper for still shorter non-pro-ductive timeDue to the double arm gripper, shorttool change times of 2 seconds can beachieved. The double arm gripper canbe used both with the 60-position, andwith the 30-position tool magazine.

Bringing intelligence into the millingprocess is the intended aim of "smartmachine". High-Speed and High-Performance Milling Centers
In terms of cutting speed, HSM centers are 10 times faster thanconventional milling machines. Greater accuracy and a better surfacefinish are also achieved. This means that even tempered materials canbe machined to a condition where they are largely ready to use. Oneessential advantage of HSM is that with systematic integration, theprocess chain can be significantly shortened. HSM has developedalongside EDM into one of the key technologies in mold and tool making.
Electric Discharge Machines
EDM can be used to machine conductive materials of any hardness (for example steel or titanium) to an accuracy of up to one-thousandth of a millimeter with no mechanical action.
