Obstetric Intensive Care Program

The Obstetric Intensive Care Program, located at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis, Minn., provides specialized intensive care for mothers and newborns. It is one of a few obstetric intensive care programs in the nation and is dedicated to critical care of obstetric patients.

The Obstetric Intensive Care Program is a collaboration between Minnesota Perinatal Physicians and Abbott Northwestern Hospital intensivists, both part of Allina Health, as well as pediatric surgery and neonatal specialists with Children’s Minnesota.

CONDITIONS TREATED

• Corrected/acquired maternal congenital heart disease

• Endocrine emergencies such as diabetic ketoacidosis, thyroid storm, and adrenal crisis

• Acute and chronic hypertensive disorders

• Severe infectious syndromes including sepsis, septic shock, and multisystem organ failure

• Complex management of the morbidly adherent placenta

hemorrhagic shock

coagulopathy

massive transfusion therapy

• Oncologic emergencies complicating pregnancy

• Neurologic emergencies such as stroke, venous thrombosis, seizure disorders, and eclampsia

• Acute, chronic, and end-stage renal disease, including continuous and intermittent dialysis

• Severe allergic reactions and anaphylaxis
