Missionary Children Missionary Children children helping children children helping children The ROSARY The word Rosary means "Crown of Roses". The Rosary is a prayer of hope. Our Lady has revealed to several people Saint Dominic, Saint Bernadette at Lourdes and the three children at Fatima : Lucy, Jacinta and Francisco that each time they say a Hail Mary they are giving her a beautiful rose and that each complete Rosary makes her a crown of roses. Slide 2 Missionary Children Missionary Children children helping children children helping children Legend says that the rosary owes its origin to St Dominic. Dominic received a vision from Our Lady who showed him a wreath of roses, representing the rosary. She told him to say the rosary daily, teach it to all who would listen and eventually the true faith would win out. Dominic was one of the first people to begin to pray the rosary. He spread devotion to it and used it to strengthen his spiritual life. St Dominic - Feast day: August 8th Slide 3 Missionary Children Missionary Children children helping children children helping children We must pray not for ourselves alone, but for the world. To this end, I have designed the World Mission Rosary. Each of the five decades is of different colour to represent each of the five continents. Each decade of that World Mission Rosary calls to mind an area where the church continues her evangelizing mission. Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen Slide 4 Missionary Children Missionary Children children helping children children helping children While meditating on each decade, represented by a distinct colour, the peoples of a particular continent are brought to prayer. Slide 6 Missionary Children Missionary Children children helping children children helping children Yes, God loved the world so much that He gave His only Son, so that everyone who believes in Him may not be lost but may have eternal life. [John 3:16] First Mission Mystery : Jesus Saviour of the World Slide 7 Missionary Children Missionary Children children helping children children helping children Second Mission Mystery : Jesus proclaims the Good News to all The Spirit of the Lord has been given to me, for He has anointed me. He has sent me to bring the good news to the poor, to proclaim liberty to captives and to the blind new sight, to set the downtrodden free, to proclaim the Lords year of favour.[Luke 4:18-19] Slide 8 Missionary Children Missionary Children children helping children children helping children So you should pray like this, Our Father in heaven, may your name be held holy, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive those who are in debt to us. And do not put us to the test, but save us from the evil one. (Matthew 6:7-15) Third Mission Mystery : Jesus teaches us how to pray Slide 9 Missionary Children Missionary Children children helping children children helping children ...When a Samaritan woman came to draw water, Jesus said to her, Give me a drink. She said, What? You are a Jew and you ask me, a Samaritan, for a drink? Jesus replied; If only you knew what God is offering and who it is that is saying to you, Give me a drink, you would have been the one to ask, and he would have given you living water... Whoever drinks this water will get thirsty again. But anyone who drinks the water that I shall give will never be thirsty again.... Sir, the woman replied, Give me some of that water so that I may never get thirsty. (John. 4:1-26) Fourth Mission Mystery : Jesus offers the gift of life Slide 10 Missionary Children Missionary Children children helping children children helping children Fifth Mission Mystery : Jesus teaches us how to live Seeing the crowds, he went up the hill. There he sat down and was joined by his disciples. Then he began to speak. This is what he taught them: How happy are the poor in spirit, theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Happy the gentle, they shall have the earth for their heritage. Happy those who mourn, they shall be comforted. Happy those who hunger and thirst for what is right, they shall be satisfied. Happy the merciful, they shall have mercy shown them. Happy the pure in heart, they shall see god. Happy the peacemakers, they shall be called sons of God. Happy those who are persecuted in the cause of right, theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
