I have been thinking a lot since National Meet-ings Industry Day (NMID) about how we can speak more effectively as an industry. The more I chat with industry friends, the more I realize there are a lot of people who think we are speaking about value, but in my mind we aren’t. I am a strong believer that it’s not just about the numbers (our $32-billion contribution to the GDP), but it’s what comes of those numbers that matters. If we don’t begin to address our real value to the corporations, associations, and governments we serve, we are ripe to find ourselves cut down to the core when times get tough.
We need to move away from conversations about the big number and the skills we have, and instead start a conversation about the end result that is achieved using these skills. Skills are just a piece of the puzzle. Sure, they make us employable. But if we can’t articulate the value that we drive to the bottom line, or deliver in the way of employee engagement, or elevate in sales, we will get no further than we are today.
Together, we need to begin to turn our col-lective way of thinking upside down. Think of your skills as your foundation, and the deeper
the foundation, the bigger the voice. However, if you don’t convert your skills-based statements to value-based vocals you won’t be heard, inside or outside of your organization.
So, how do you continue to develop your skills AND work to understand and define your true value while manag-ing all of your programs and other job functions? It’s cer-tainly not easy. But, it’s where we fit in. IncentiveWorks is more than just a conference and trade show. It’s an op-portunity to hone your skills, build your own solid founda-
tion and discover your true value. It’s a chance to open the conversations with our speakers, your peers, industry associations and the com-munity at large. It’s here that you will further understand your value. Take it all in, learn from others and share.
If we all start to speak the language of value together, imagine how strong we will sound.
WHAT DOES VALUE MEAN TO YOU?

JUMPSTART YOUR CREATIVITY NOW!
Event planners are an artistic bunch. We have to be—our jobs depend on it. But even the most creative types need a little help getting the juices flowing. This highly visual session, delivered by Freeman XP’s director of experience Mike McCauley, will not only inspire, but will give you hard-and-fast rules (yes, there are rules!) to
spark creativity. Walk away feeling energized with ideas you can implement now! Designed for all levels. Imagina-tion is a prerequisite.
DESIGNED FOR: Those looking to be inspired and energized!
PRESENTED BY: Mike McCauley, vice-president, director of ex-perience, Freeman XP. Mike unofficially describes his role to clients as being the ringmaster of the entire experience, leading his team to find that pivotal emotional trigger that creates a truly strong connection with the audience.

AN INSIDER’S LOOK AT EMERGING INCENTIVE TRAVEL DESTINATIONS
Like a cook’s tour of the kitchen, a travel editor’s perspective on where to go next provides incentive travel planners, ahead-of-the-jetstream intel you need to plan stunning incentive travel trips for your most discerning clients. Be surprised by this list of 10 top (and emerging) destinations for the year to come, packaged with a suite of hot travel trends that will wow even the most sophisticated globetrotter. Arrive curious and leave in-the-know.
DESIGNED FOR: Those who plan incentive travel programs and are looking to wow their clients and employers with exciting destination ideas.
PRESENTED BY: Domini Clark is the travel editor of The Globe and Mail, Canada’s national newspaper. It’s her job to con-nect readers to the world’s hottest destinations. She trav-els extensively, and has so far visited all 10 provinces, more than half the U.S. states and 19 countries.
8:30 A.M. – 10:15 A.M.
STOP WORKING AND SEE PRODUCTIVITY SOAR!
Leisure and meetings? It seems like a con-tradiction companies just can’t reconcile! Whether they are preparing for an import-ant product launch or want to reward high-performing salespeople, meetings can be a key ingredient in both promoting a leisure ethic and advancing business objectives. With Paul’s guidance, meeting profession-
als will learn to reframe their audience’s perspective of work vs. leisure.
DESIGNED FOR: Those who want to get more out of their em-ployees, attendees and selves.
PRESENTED BY: Paul Marchildon, CITE, serial-entrepreneur, marketing executive, and lifelong leisure enthusiast. Paul has made it his mission to stop working, to discard the traditional rigid, restrictive, and productivity-crushing work ethic—and make some real progress.
8:30 A.M. – 10:15 A.M.
MEETINGS: THE SOCIAL PLATFORM OF THE FUTURE
Discover how you can design meetings for the social changes, needs and demands of the future in this interactive session based on the latest findings from MPI’s future of meetings research, which tracked social media live at events across the world and surveyed four generations on four contin-ents. Take a close look at why people share so much or so little of their lives online. Explore the oppor-tunities ahead and discover how you can successfully en-gage your participants and clients online and offline.
DESIGNED FOR: Those who have an understanding of social platforms and want to see how this new social world will impact meetings.
PRESENTED BY: Jackie Mulligan, director of enterprise and principal lecturer for the International Centre for Research in Events, Tourism and Hospitality at Leeds Metropolitan University.

360 DEGREES OF STAKEHOLDER ENGAGEMENT
Meeting professionals frequently think of “stakeholder” as a single entity (the per-son who owns the event). But there are many stakeholders in our ecosystem: de-partment managers, colleagues and—most importantly—attendees. In this learning lab, you will explore the importance of en-gaging all your stakeholders, and see how
those stakeholders are intrinsically tied to demonstrating a meeting’s value. You will work through case studies and identify best practices that illuminate different challenges and offer key solutions. You will develop a Plan of Action (POA) by completing a stakeholder mapping exercise, and you will build a list of questions that will lead to meaningful measurements for your meetings and events.
DESIGNED FOR: Those with a keen interest in stakeholder engagement, and are looking for a practical, “working workshop.”
PRESENTED BY: Betsy Bondurant, CMM, CMP, founder and president of Bondurant Consulting. Betsy offers a unique 360° perspective with over 30 years of industry expertise in hotel sales and meeting and trade-show management, including 12 years of direct involvement in the discipline of Strategic Meetings Management.
8:30 A.M. – 9:15 A.M.
DECONSTRUCTING EVENTS: RE-ENGINEERING YOUR EVENT FOR HIGHER ENGAGEMENT
With so many messages hitting your em-ployees, event attendees or sales force, how do you make sure that your message will resonate? Logic changes what people think and emotion changes what people do. By re-mapping your event along an emotional arc (pre, during and post your event) you can inspire your people to act, thus generating lasting results. Emotionally connecting with your audience at strategic touch-points inside and out of the ballroom to increase engagement will create a moving experience that will inspire and motivate them be-yond the meeting room. This interactive session will walk the participants through the psychological science behind emotional engagement and then how to identify your audience’s state of mind so that you can deliver an event that is emotionally engaging and creates an impact.
DESIGNED FOR: Those who haven’t really considered (or put into practice) emotional engagement, when planning and executing their events.
PRESENTED BY: Ben Moorsom, president and chief creative officer of Debut Group, a company that specializes in corporate business communication and events across North America.
9:30 A.M. – 10:15 A.M.
RELATIONSHIP ROI
This workshop will take you through the steps to building strong relationships with clients, vendors, sponsors and/or team members. The strategies taught will apply to various relationships within the scope of your work, regardless of which stage you’re at in your career. Nikki will address positive error rectification as
well as techniques to forming strong and mutually benefi-cial business partnerships. You’ll then be able to leverage those relationships negotiating event contracts/sponsor-ships while working more efficiently with committed team members and vendors.
DESIGNED FOR: Those who are looking to cultivate relationships or simply need a refresher.
PRESENTED BY: Nikki Pett, author, speaker, passionate trainer and philanthropist. Nikki started her own promotional mar-keting company, Sigma Promotions, in 2002 and has built her business solely on personal relationships and referrals.
We tailor our in-depth education sessions to not only be relevant to your day-to-day job but also benefit your career. That’s why we pre-qualify our education sessions with the Convention Industry Council (CIC) so that time spent at IncentiveWorks may also help you gain your certification or re-certification.

FOOL-PROOF ATTENDANCE STRATEGIES
It’s a question that keeps planners up at night: What if no one shows up? In this two-part marketing work-shop, you’ll hear from a self-taught veteran plan-ner who’s had those same fears throughout his ca-
reer and a new media marketing expert equipped with the tools you need to ensure you reach your audience and get people talking about your event (so you can stop worrying). This session will show you how to build an effective and real-istic marketing plan, and how to make it a reality.

+ Special thanks to the Canadian Tourism Commission, our new Strategic Partners and our new Program Partners whose combined generosity has allowed us to expand the reach of our Hosted Buyer base beyond Canada.
+ We are now offering even more opportunities to host buyers through our expanded Hosted Buyers Program, new VIP Buyer and Appointments Pass programs. We are on track to host over 200 appointments-driven buyers at IncentiveWorks in 2013.
+ We encourage all meeting planners who aren’t able to attend this year’s event to apply for the program next year. The call for applications will open in early 2014 and will be promoted through Meetings + Incentive Travel magazine, meetingscanada.com and our weekly e-newsletter.

INVESTING IN THE FUTURE OF CANADIAN MEETINGS!
Meetings + Incentive Travel (M+IT), producer of IncentiveWorks, is proud to sponsor the Canadian Economic Impact Study 3.0 (CEIS). Plans are underway for a year-long study mea-suring the impact of meetings activity on Canada’s economy initiated by MPI Foundation Canada.
The goal of CEIS 3.0 is to quantify the value delivered by the business events industry to their communities and economy, both on a national and provincial level, in an effort to have the meetings sector recognized as a distinct and credible economic activity within the Canadian economy. M+IT will match your donation to CEIS 3.0 in 2013 up to $10,000CDN. Pledge your donation when you register for IncentiveWorks!
$6,850 DONATED IN 2012!Together we raised enough money to build an entire well in Ethiopia. IncentiveWorks 2013 continues to pledge the proceeds of the first 250 Closing Party tickets to charity: water, while accepting on-site donations during the evening. Let’s try to build another well this year, maybe even two! Details on the amazing work charity: water does can be found at charitywater.org
