On Sunday, April 23, the LA Galaxy take on Western Conference rival Seattle Sounders FC at StubHub Center. The match kicks off at 1:00 p.m. and will be broadcast live on ESPN. The Galaxy return to the friendly confines of the StubHub Center after heartbreaking 2-1 loss in the Eastern time zone to Orlando City SC. The Galaxy were a bully at home in 2016 to all but one opponent: Seattle. The Sounders topped the Galaxy 4-2 in their last trip to Los Angeles. But this time, they’ll have to get passed the Galaxy and red-hot Romain Alessandrini. More glamorous circumstances between these two foes have preceded Sunday’s matchup. They’ll meet as the 8th and 9th seed in the Western Conference when they kick off Sunday, both looking for statement wins to late-launch their 2017 campaigns. LA GALAXY NOTES:

Romain Alessandrini = so hot right now. o Three-game scoring streak. o Four goals in his last three games o Four straight games with a goal or assist. o Averaging a 1 goal or assist per game this

season. o Very, very handsome. Loves LA.

Alessandrini is second in SOG for MLS (10), first in shots (27).

Jermaine Jones has scored or assisted in three consecutive games. One goal and two assists for the midfielder on the season.

Ema Boateng scored or assisted in three consecutive games before the team’s loss to Orlando. One goals and two assists on the season as well.

LA lead MLS in blocked shots.

LA GALAXY, ADIDAS AND MLS COLLABORATE WITH PARLEY FOR THE OCEANS TO DEBUT FIRST MLS JERSEYS MADE FROM PARLEY OCEAN PLASTIC™: LA Galaxy, adidas and MLS collaborate with Parley For the Oceans to debut first MLS jerseys made from Parley Ocean Plastic™: The LA Galaxy, adidas, Major League Soccer and Parley For The Oceans have united today to raise awareness around the harmful impact of marine plastic pollution with the unveiling of four adidas MLS Parley club jerseys. The kits—each made from technical yarns containing Parley Ocean Plastic™—will be worn by both teams Sunday. The Galaxy will don the Parley jerseys on Sunday in conjunction with Protect the Pitch Day, which will also showcase additional initiatives to showcase the committed effort from the Galaxy and StubHub Center to become a more sustainable and environmentally-friendly stadium. The contest features TreePeople as the Community Partner of the Match. EFRA ALVAREZ NAMED ONE OF MLSSOCCER.COM'S TOP FIVE PLAYERS FROM THE GA CUP | INSIDER: The LA Galaxy Academy wunderkind shined during his time with the Galaxy U-16’s leading the way for the squad that earned several key victories including a win over German team Eintracht Frankfurt. "Alvarez was one of the youngest players at the GA Cup at just 14 years old, but there’s little doubt regarding his abilities. The left-footed playmaker was mostly deployed on the right wing, and he was a terror for all opposing defenders," MLSsoccer.com's Ben Baer wrote. "He was able to find teammates with chipped balls over the top of the defense, dropping them on a dime. He also beat any defender that was left alone on an island against him." LA Galaxy’s Romain Alessandrini scored his 4th goal of the season for the Galaxy with his equalizer in the 82nd minute.

With the goal, Alessandrini has now scored in three straight matches for the Galaxy. He’s scored or assisted in four straight matches.

LA attempted a season-high 18 shots in the match. Gyasi Zardes made his second straight start of the 2017 season after returning to pitch recently

LA Galaxy Postgame Quote Sheet: LA Galaxy 1, Orlando City SC 2

LA Galaxy Postgame Quote Sheet LA Galaxy 1, Orlando City SC 2 Saturday, April 15, 2017 2017 MLS Regular Season Orlando City Stadium – Orlando, Fla. LA GALAXY HEAD COACH CURT ONALFO On results of the game “Disappointing because of how hard we fought to get the equalizer. It’s hard to get points on the road, travel all the way across the country. You go down early and you keep pushing, keep fighting. We had chance after chance and we just felt it was common and then it came and it was disappointing that we didn’t close it off properly.” On LA conceding the first goal “Every game is different. The crowd had a lot of energy to start, difficult environment to play, lots of travel, and they were better to start the game. We just kept grinding and grinding and it showed our fortitude and our will within. We positioned ourselves to get at least a point and then you just have to defend and defend well. Sometimes you get a second opportunity but that is not what you need to be focused on. You have to defend and get out of there with a point and get home.” On improving set piece defending “Obviously, but for me it’s more than that. You guys are all going to point fingers, that’s what you guys do but for me it’s not about pointing fingers it’s about you win together, you lose together, and you tie together. We should not have been in a situation where we gave up a corner kick. That’s something we have to tidy up and continue to get better.” On how this week’s performance will affect match against Seattle “You have to build, learn and get better. That is what our group does. It’s a long season. You’re going to have ups, downs and issues that you deal with but it’s how you respond to them, how you learn from them and how you grow as a group. We’ll learn from this and we’ll grow from this.” On team’s performance after Orlando scored

Page 15: MLS Game Guide...LA GALAXY vs. SEATTLE SOUNDERS FC STUBHUB CENTER, Carson, Calif. Sunday, April 23 (Week 8, MLS Game #80) 1 p.m. PT (ESPN / ESPN Deportes; TSN) SEATTLE SOUNDERS FC

“We kept fighting and if you looked at our game plan I thought we actually did well other than conceding. We moved the ball side to side well and we created chances wide. I don’t think we made enough runs in behind in the first half, we adjusted to make more in the second and I thought we were very dangerous in the second half. It’s really unfortunate we didn’t make a point.” LA GALAXY MIDFIELDER JERMAINE JONES On Orlando City Stadium “I think the atmosphere was good and the stadium in general I think was good with the fans.”

On the result “To be honest, I think we have a lot of chances, but we don’t score. They score a goal where it bounced out and they hit the second ball in. I general, I think we played a better game.” On team’s performance “The important thing is don’t listen to what the people outside are talking. Just keep working hard. You know how the season can go. You saw Seattle last season. They hadn’t played a whole good season, but at the end they won the MLS.” On giving up early goals “It’s tough, it’s not easy. At one point, we have to talk about it and see what we can do better. I think it’s a process where we have to learn from and those mistakes cannot happen every game.” LA GALAXY DEFENDER JELLE VAN DAMME On LA Galaxy's goal “It was a good delivery. It was in front of Romain [Alessandrini], so he scored the goal.” On how to improve the LA Galaxy defense “I don’t know, I think we did pretty well. We started sloppy, the defense was better at the end of the first half. Then in the second half, I think we got forward and ahead of them. We scored to make it 1-1. With ten minutes to go we wanted to close the game, it was an away game and we would of liked to have a point. We go with nothing now, and that’s reality. It’s a shame. They got a corner with two minutes to go, and they were really dangerous.” On LA Galaxy starting games slow “It is personal, you have to be ready for it, you have to be prepared. We wanted to start strong.” On why the LA Galaxy started this game poorly “I don’t know, that is a personal question as well. We have to look at ourselves.” On Orlando City Stadium “It is a nice stadium, I love playing here. It is a nice crowd as well. It is a shame we could not get points out of the match. It is a nice club.” On what he said to Bendik at end of game “No, I was just talking to the referee. The ref said I was elbowing. However, I have never given an elbow in my whole career. I don’t give elbows, at least not on purpose. You can say whatever to me, I don’t care. Then once the game is over, it’s done.” On potential positive takeaways from game “Yes, we did very well on the goal. We dominated the second half. If we could get away with a point, we would of had something to build on. Now, it’s a shame we leave with nothing. We have a new week and three home games coming up.”

SOUNDERS FC SOUNDBYTESHead Coach Brian Schmetzer:

On Cristian Roldan: “I think his tactical awareness is the No. 1 thing I have noticed that he has gotten much better at. When he first came to us he had a good engine and was a good player... Now, his third year in, [his tactical acumen] is really high.”

Forward Jordan Morris:

On playing the LA Galaxy: “It’s always a good game and definitely a rivalry, the fans get into it. We had a good result there last year, so hopefully we can do the same.”

On starting five of seven matches on the road: “Yeah it’s tough. It’s always a little bit tougher starting away from home, but the results will come. We learned that last season; it’s a long season. The team is getting better and the attack-ing will get better... We’re not worried at all.”

LAST MEETING AT LA GALAXYJordan Morris recorded the first brace of his professional career to lead Seattle Sounders FC to a 4-2 road win over the LA Galaxy on September 25, 2016 at the StubHub Center, giving the Rave Green their first road win over the Galaxy since August 15, 2009. Brian Schmetzer’s side moved to three points below Portland for the last Western Conference spot in the 2016 Audi MLS Cup Playoffs, with two games in-hand.

After Robbie Keane put the host side up 1-0 in the 20th minute, Seattle se-cured an equalizer 15 minutes later. Austrian international Andreas Ivanschitz delivered a well-placed corner kick that glanced off of Galaxy defender Jelle Van Damme and into the LA goal.

Morris vaulted the visitors into the lead in the 63rd minute of play, as the rookie made a streaking run into LA’s area and buried his attempt at Brian Rowe’s far post. He completed the brace 10 minutes later on a rebound attempt from close range, giving the Rave Green a two-goal lead in front of the Galaxy faithful. Osvaldo Alonso added an insurance tally in the 78th minute to give the visiting side four goals, the most Sounders FC has ever scored in a road match against the Galaxy.

MLS PARLEY JERSEY INITIATIVEFor Sunday’s match against the LA Galaxy, Seattle Sounders FC is partici-pating in a unique initiative with adidas, Major League Soccer and Parley for the Oceans designed to raise awareness around the harmful impact of marine plastic pollution.

The kits are created from technical yarns containing Parley Ocean Plastic - upcycled marine plastic that has been reworked into fibers that are repurposed for apparel. Seattle is one of four MLS clubs selected to take part in the Parley initiative, which is being featured in North America for the first time this week-end following a 2016 debut with adidas FC Bayern Munich and Real Madrid C.F. Parley jerseys.

The jerseys feature alternative colorway details and special neck-tape reading “For the Oceans” to commemorate the unique repurposing process that helped create the jerseys from marine plastic debris. The Galaxy is wearing white Parley kits.

SOUNDERS FC HISTORYHEAD COACH BRIAN SCHMETZER

After leading Sounders FC to one of the most improb-able comebacks in MLS history, Brian Schmetzer was named the club’s second-ever Head Coach on Novem-ber 2, 2016. Upon assuming the interim manager role on July 26, 2016 following the departure of Sigi Schmid, Seattle sat in ninth place in the Western Conference with a 6-12-2 record. Under Schmetzer, Sounders FC finished the season with an 8-2-4 record and a fourth-place finish, becoming the first team in MLS history to make the MLS Cup Playoffs after having 20 or fewer points through the first 20 matches of the season. He

is the first coach in MLS history to lead his team to the MLS Cup title after assuming the Head Coach position midseason.

A longtime Sounders FC assistant and former USL Sounders manager, Schmetzer entered his eighth season as Top Assistant Coach in 2016, a position he retained since December 22, 2008. He is one of the Puget Sound soccer community’s most recognizable and respected figures after playing and coaching for the region’s top professional franchises since 1980.

Schmetzer served seven seasons as the Head Coach of the Sounders’ United Soccer League’s First Division club from 2002-2008 before making the jump to MLS. He guided Seattle to USL-1 championships in 2005 and 2007, and Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup semifinal advancements in 2007 and 2008.

Schmetzer has 14 years of coaching experience and a 15-year background playing at the professional level. He was a member of six championship teams during that span. In addition to the two USL championships, his teams also twice won the Commissioner’s Cup for the league’s best record (2002, 2007), while also qualifying for the playoffs six of seven years. He was chosen USL-1 Coach of the Year in 2002 after going 23-4-1. The Sounders were league runners-up in 2004. His overall regular season record in the USL era was 100-57-41.

Previously, he was assistant to former United States National Team defender Fernando Clavijo with the Seattle SeaDogs from 1996-1997. Seattle won the Continental Indoor Soccer League title in 1997.

A Seattle native, Schmetzer was coached by his father, Walt, as a youth. His team won seven out of 10 state youth championships. He signed with the
