Introduction Cognos was created to work with Internet Explorer. However, as Microsoft has improved its security
with each release, Cognos features are affected. In order to ensure Cognos maintains proper
functionality, there are some simple steps to follow. After Microsoft or the College pushes out updates
to Internet Explorer, it is possible that these settings will need to be modified again.
Steps for updating Internet Explorer Settings There are several places in Internet Options that need to be modified to modify the default settings put

9. Just above the Custom level button is a checkbox to Enable Protected Mode. Please check this box.

Notes about downloading a file into another format When you are exporting a file to Excel, your View Downloads window will appear a bit different from the
older versions of Internet Explorer.
Just like in the older versions of IE and when you open
an attachment from Outlook, you will have the option
to Open or Save the file you have downloaded.
Internet Explorer will give the file a randomly
generated alpha numeric name and store a temporary
copy in the default location, which is in the Downloads
folder of your My Folders.
If this window does not pop up automatically, chances
