A company with strong values...Simon Moos Manufacturing A/S was established in 1978 by the current directors Simon Moos and Hanne Aamand. The knowledge gained over the years from the contracting division of Simon Moos has allowed our company to design, develop and produce equipment for the wet waste industry in particular their own series of jet-vacs and not to mention the well-known mobile and stationary units for the effective dewatering and treatment of sludge’s. We are an international company with over 60 employees and have an export share of 75% spread over three continents.

Simon Moos Manufacturing A/S is firmly rooted in the South of Denmark where there is a strong tradition in manufacturing and engineering. Here the major part of our product programme is being designed and produced. We attach great importance as an employer in the fact that our employees, whether he or she works on the shop floor, on the design and production team or with the sales department all share the same values, commitment and enthusiasm in producing top quality products for the industry. We attach great importance and take pride in our openness and our ability in understanding the market place. Our company’s keyword is, “balance”, balance between meeting the customers requirements and producing the right type of equipment to service their needs. A good indication that we are living up to our reputation and achieving our goals in being a leading force in the manufacturing industry is that we are able to boast re-sales to our customers of 95%. This fact makes our company very proud.

...a guaranteed investment for the future...”The increasing environmental impact must be disconnected from the economic growth.” This sentence will become a standard remark in any global or national environmental strategy.

The current situation with global warming, the rising amounts of waste being produced and the growing need to reduce it along with other sources of pollution has resulted globally in various political initiatives, the purpose of which is to change the attitude of waste companies and industry in obtaining a greater environmental awareness. In financial terms companies will notice increasing costs for the disposal of waste water. The permitted limits for contaminants in waste water will become lower and lower. Fuel, road tax and disposal along with clean water supplies etc. will eventually become subjected to higher environmental duties. If companies are unwilling to adapt to changes in environmental legislation they will probably notice a marked reduction in profits. Using the AVC system in certain circumstances could reduce or even waiver the current landfill duty within the United Kingdom. The Simon Moos AVC system fits the global environmental strategy because it reduces waste volumes by up to 90% and in many cases the dry filter cake produced can be safely disposed of at a licensed landfill site or recycled and used as fertilizer after a controlled sanitation process to name but a couple of routes.

The keyword in the company is balance.

90 % volume reduction and 95 % reduction of COD and BOD - only a few of the advantages of the AVC & EOD/DEOD system ! It dewaters the sludge to a dry mass with various recycling possibilities!

Realising that the average sludge contained a high percentage of water, which was needlessly being transported for disposal at the local waste water treatment works, Simon Moos decided to develop a system that would take the treatment works to the sludge and the AVC & DEOD/EOD where born. The principle behind the MOOS AVC & EOD/DEOD system is to deliver a high “volume reduction” of sludge. The EOD/DEOD is a pumping and polymer dosing unit. EOD is the electrical driven construction and the DEOD is a diesel engine version.

The EOD/DEOD pumps the sludge into the AVC dewatering container where the separation of the water and dry matter occours.

The EOD/DEOD unit is used to mix polymer into the sludge as it is being pumped into the AVC dewatering container. The mixing of polymer into the sludge creates a flocculation that increases the speed and efficiency of the dewatering process.

Under normal circumstances the sludge is drawn into the EOD/DEOD by the sludge pump located on the EOD/DEOD and then polymer is injected automatically at a suitable amount by the polymer pump and injection system of the EOD/DEOD.

The user can easily regulate the actual amount of polymer injected by adjusting the speed of the polymer pump.

The sludge can also be delivered directly into the EOD/DEOD from a pressurised tanker, where the polymer is then injected into a Cyclone system attatched to the EOD/DEOD. This function is particularly useful if the sludge contains crude debris such as stones, heavy sand and metal etc. which would normally damage the sludge pump. The flocculated sludge continues from the cyclone and in to the AVC where separation of water and dry matter occurs.

AVC translated means, on-site dewatering container. The AVC is a dewatering unit constructed as a mobile container. The AVC consists of a closed container, equipped inside with filtration screens. The filtration screens drain and dewater the flocculated sludge. The front of the AVC is equipped with a filler pipe through which the container is charged with sludge. The reject water is discharged through valves on the front of the AVC. The rear of the AVC container is equipped with a full width door, through which the dewatered sludge is emptied.

It’s simple to operate...

Product description for the AVC...The AVC consists of a closed container, equipped inside with filtration screens along the two sides and a filtration screen down the centre. The filtration screens drain and dewater the flocculated sludge.

The rear of the container is equipped with a full width door with a hydraulically assisted locking mechanism, through which the dewatered sludge is emptied.

The front of the container is equipped with a filler pipe through which the container is charged with sludge. A pivoting galvanized ladder is mounted at the front of the container and when drawn down erects a galvanized safety rail which allows easy and safe access to the top, where the inspection hatches are located.

The cleansed water is discharged through two 3” ball valves, one on each side. The container is equipped with an inside ladder for easy access for cleaning and inspection. The container is sandblasted, primed and painted. The inside surface is coated with epoxy.

and the EOD/DEOD!The EOD/DEOD unit is used to mix polymer into the sludge as it is being pumped into the AVC dewatering container.

The mixing of polymer into the sludge creates a flocculation that increases the speed and efficiency of the dewatering process. The polymer feeding/dosing pump accomplishes the process of mixing the right quantity of polymer into the sludge and the polymer pump is self-priming.

The screw pump is used when the application for pumping sludge from the source into the AVC dewatering container is required. The cyclone is required when the application requires the sludge to be discharged directly into the AVC and allows the loading of sludge’s containing crude debris to be loaded into the container from a normal vacuum tanker. The polymer supply for the feeding/dosing pump is stored in a tank. The mixing device in the tank creates a homogenous polymer mixture. An access hole is provided for cleaning the tank. A control panel is provided for the operation of the sludge pump, polymer pump and mixing propeller, as well as all start/stop operations. The pump/cyclone and dosing plant is sandblasted, primed and painted.

Recycling of dewatered sludge...There are several routes for recycling and disposing of the dewatered cake from the AVC system. Depending on the specific nature of the dewatered cake it can either be lime stabilized and used as fertilizer on agricultural land, composted or used in biogas plants. With a MOOS lime/ sludge mixing plant dewatered sludge is mixed with lime. The pH level is raised to 14 and you obtain the optimum temperature of approximately 80° C. This gives an effective sanitation and delivers a log 6 reduction in pathogens.

Grease or contaminated cakes can be used to accelerate the burning process at incineration plants or as a last resort be deposited at a landfill site. In addition to the fact that we construct effective sludge dewatering systems it is also one of our strengths at Simon Moos Manufacturing that we are able, through the contracting division of the company, to offer advice and technical support in the handling of sludge’s from the knowledge and experience gained over many years.

...and quality cleansed water!During the dewatering process the flocculated sludge captures harmful particles and holds them within the dewatered cake. This means that the cleansed water is of a high quality and can be reused. The AVC is unique in its performance as the reduction values show in the table below. In some cases a further reduction of the very small percentage of suspended solids in the permeate is necessary. The solution may be a mechanical filter – sand filter – charcoal filter, UV or UF. It depends on the specific case and the purpose for reuse of the water. The core in our dewatering system is that we can deliver a flexible and economic solution - fulfilling legislative requirements!
