Selection Test
Secondary 1 students in the Express Stream, who display and demonstrate talent in art or music, can apply as
external AEP or MEP students at these centres by submitting their application through their secondary
schools in January 2016.
Shortlisted students will be required to attend a selection test, and selected students will commence their AEP/MEP
lessons at the centres from Term 2 of 2016.
FAQ What do the MEP/AEP classes consist of? How many hours in a week do the MEP/AEP lessons take? Does MOE envision any difficulties for the external students in terms of travelling time and timetable coordination? • The AEP/MEP classes comprise formal lessons and enrichment.
The lessons span three periods (approximately 1 hour 45 minutes) per week at the lower secondary level.
• Enrichment opportunities to participate in master-classes and workshops. Lessons for the external students will be held in the afternoon, after official lessons end for these students in their respective schools.
• There will be tight communication and coordination between schools and centres to ensure that students are well supported to travel and attend lessons at the centres.
What does the selection test for external AEP/MEP students involve? The selection tests for the students outside AEP/MEP schools will be similar to those administered to students at these schools. For AEP, the selection test will comprise a drawing or art-making task and a written paper where students write about their responses to visual images and artworks. For MEP, the selection test will comprise a practical audition on an instrument and a written test.
