OBJECTIVE

The requirements for Cargo Carrying Units (CCUs) in order to protect equipment, prevent injuries and mitigate risks associated with the use of cargo carrying units..

HIGH RISK DURING CCU LOADS

Hazardous materials. Abnormal loads where the center of

gravity is offset from the middle of the load or above middle of the load.

Other loads deemed high-risk by an authorized person.

RESPONSIBLE PERSON AS PER

HALLIBURTON MANAGEMENT SYSTEM (HMS) ST-GL-HAL-HSE-0908

HSE functional personnel is responsible for:

1. Assisting management with communicating requirements of this standard to employees in their areas of responsibility

Results shall be communicated to employees involved in CCU operations.

Updates to the risk assessment shall be made when changes to the equipment or process impact the risk assessment.

RISK ASSESSMENTS-2

SPECIFIC RISK ASSESSMENTS SHALL BE PERFORMED FOR EVERY HIGH-RISK CCU LOAD.

RISK ASSESSMENTS OF HIGH-RISK CCU LOADS SHALL: Be performed by personnel who have completed risk assessment

training per the HSE standard. Identify all applicable hazards Identify all applicable controls for identified hazards and ensure

that controls are implemented appropriately Be approved by site supervisor or manager Be communicated to employees involved in the high-risk load

operations.

CCU CONDITION

The CCU shall be inspected by authorized persons both inside and out before it is loaded with cargo. If a CCU appears damaged to the extent that it could elevate the risk to a person, to the environment or to the cargo itself, the supplier of the CCU should be contacted to obtain a replacement.

PACKING, AND SECURING OF GOODS IN CCU

Secure all cargo inside the CCU to ensure that they do not move during transit, especially toward the door of the container.

Use permanent securing equipment incorporated into a CCU wherever necessary to prevent cargo movement.

Where lashings are used, use at least two lashings equally distributed across the load.

Do not overload tie-down points inside the CCU. The total capacity of the tie-down points and lashing should be

greater than the weight of the load. After closing wooden box, secure all latches with heavy-duty tie-

wraps or similar seal.

INSPECTION OF CONTAINERS PRIOR TO DISPATCH

The Authorized person responsible for packing a CCU shall carry out a final inspection before authorizing the CCU to be dispatched. A record of the inspection(s) is to be kept by the person carrying out the inspection(s).
