Closing Bell: BSE Sensex closed higher by 86 points, or 0.29%, to 29,422, while the Nifty 50 rose 33 points, or 0.36%, to 9,136. BSE Sensex rose on Thursday as investors picked beaten down counters, including technology stocks, which lost ground on disappointing quarterly results from software services exporters Infosys Ltd and Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. The Nifty has fallen about 1.7% since it hit a record high on 5 April. Infosys, which lost about 5% on a lower-than-expected revenue guidance, was up 0.7%, while Tech Mahindra Ltd rose 1%, rebounding from five days of declines. India Cements Ltd shares rise 10% to Rs191.75 after the company said it receives NCLT nod for merger of its subsidiaries. The stock gained for the second consecutive sessions and rose over 19% in this period. So far this year it gained 64%. Aviation stocks trade higher. Jet Airways India shares rise 6.3%, SpiceJet shares rise 6.2%, InterGlobe Aviation Ltd shares rise 4.4%. UFO Moviez shares rise 1% to Rs448.85 after the company said it acquired exclusive rights to monetize advertising inventory on United Media Works Pvt.’s 300 cinema screens in India. Banking stocks gains. Union Bank of India 2.9%, Canara Bank 2.3%, Jammu & Kashmir Bank 2.1%, Uco Bank 1.9%, Oriental Bank of Commerce 1.8%, Andhra Bank 1.8%, Indian Bank 1.8%, Syndicate Bank 1.8%, Bank of Baroda 1.6%, Corporation Bank 1.6%, DCB Bank 1.3%. Dewan Housing Finance Ltd rose 1.6% to Rs 407.75 after Mint reported the company plans to sell a majority stake in its Aadhar Housing Finance Ltd unit. Jay Bharat Maruti Ltd shares rise 14% to Rs495 after the company said it reported a net profit of Rs20.75 crore in March quarter, up 72% from Rs12.06 crore a year ago. Kitex Garments Ltd shares rise 6.1% to Rs453.75 after the company said its board to meet on 28 April to consider bonus issue. Yes Bank Ltd shares fall 3% to Rs1,556.55 after the bank reported sharp rise in its provisioning and bad loans. Yes Bank reported a doubling of gross non-performing assets (NPAs) to Rs2,018 crore in the March quarter, as it had to set aside an additional Rs228 crore to cover potential loan losses. Yes Bank’s gross NPAs were at 1.52% at the end of the March quarter and net NPAs were at 0.81%. Sun TV Network Ltd shares rise 5% to Rs883 after the company likely to see subscription boost and increase in revenues after Tamil Nadu state government–backed Arasu Cable TV received a digital license. Reliance Industries Ltd shares rise 1% to Rs1,380.05 after the company said it has commissioned Ethane project. The project includes commissioning of ethane receipt & handling facilities and ethane cracking at Dahej manufacturing facility in western Indian state of Gujarat. The rupee opened at 64.66 a dollar. At 9.12am, the rupee was trading at 64.70 a dollar, down 0.18% from its Wednesday’s close of 64.58. Asian currencies were trading lower. Indonesian rupiah was down 0.15%, Philippines peso 0.11%, South Korean won 0.1%, Japanese yen 0.09% and Taiwan dollar 0.04%. However, Thai baht was up 0.1%.

News: Godrej Properties Ltd (GPL) plans to sell some of its office assets to raise
around Rs1500 crore, a significant portion of which would be used to pare debt.
Investments in domestic capital markets via participatory notes (P-notes) have surprisingly surged to 4-month high of Rs 1.78 lakh crore at the end of March despite stringent norms put in place by Sebi to curb inflow of funds. P-notes are issued by registered Foreign Portfolio Investors to overseas investors who wish to be a part of the Indian stock markets without registering themselves directly. They however need to go through a proper due diligence process.
Shares of aviation companies such as InterGlobe Aviation, SpiceJet and Jet Airways were flying high in Thursday’s trade after data showed that domestic air traffic between January-March was almost 18.6 per cent higher than the corresponding period last year as IndiGo led the market share flying nearly 40 per cent of passengers last month. Cheering the news, InterGlobe Aviations surged as much as 5 per cent, while SpiceJet and Jet Airways also climbed 10 per cent and 6.8 per cent.
Shares of Tijaria Polypip, Jay Bharat Marut, PVP Ventures, Kilitch Drug, India Cements, India Nippon, Atlanta Ltd, Shalimar Paints, Jain Irrigation, PNC Infratech Ltd. hit their fresh 52-week high during the trade on NSE.
Franklin Templeton Mutual Fund has hiked its stake in Somany Ceramic by 1.27 per cent by buying 5.36 lakh shares in the open market. Franklin Templeton Mutual Fund, which had 3.95 per cent stake earlier, hiked its shareholding in the company to 5.22 per cent by buying shares on April 18, Somany Ceramics said in a filing to the BSE.
The most unlikely business is creating the biggest buzz on Dalal Street these days. Shares of India’s only listed-poultry firm, Venky’s India, are on a roll over the past two months or so. An investment of Rs 1 lakh in the stock would have become over Rs 2.80 lakh in just 73 sessions.
Shares of Sun TV Network surged as much as 8.62 per cent in early trade on Thursday after global brokerage houses CLSA and Credit Suisse upgraded the stock, citing digitalisation in Tamil Nadu is positive for the company. The scrip was trading 4.55 per cent up at Rs 882.05.
Benchmark indices opened on a firm note on Thursday, lifted by healthy quarterly earnings by private lenders and positive cues from Asian markets -- even as crude oil prices tanked 4 per cent in overnight trade on less-than-expected fall in US crude inventories. The BSE Sensex was trading 48 points, or 0.16 per cent, higher at 29,384.
South Korean consumer electronics giant LG is looking at making India its export hub, banking on good ties between the two countries at a time when its overseas shipments from China are declining.
Shares of Aurobindo Pharma Ltd. fell the most in five months after the U.S. drug regulator issued an inspection report with six observations for the company’s Bachupally manufacturing facility in Hyderabad.
European markets struck a note of cautious optimism on Wednesday, with stocks rising and haven assets declining. U.K. shares edged lower as the pound held most of its gains following the surprise election announcement.
